Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Gatineau Olympiques 1 @ Quebec Remparts 2

W Nikita Kucherov, QUE: 0-2-2, +2, 2 PIM (interference), 4 SOG, 0 Hits, *Third Star*
Season totals: 2 GP, 1-2-3, +1, 2 PIM

Kucherov (pictured, LaPresse photo) was back in the Remparts lineup and earned the primary assist on both Quebec’s goals. The Remparts came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Olympiques, 2-1. Coach Patrick Roy seems to be rotating his three import players (teams can only play two). Today, Sabres first rounder Mikhail Grigorenko sat in the press box while Kucherov and Nick Sorensen (2013) played. Roy will eventually have to trade one, unless the lockout ends and Grigorenko bolts to the NHL. Grigorenko has 24 points in 15 games this season. Sorensen has 14 in 15.

Ontario Hockey League

Sarnia Sting 4 @ Brampton Battalion 1

D Dylan Blujus, BRAM: 0-0-0, -1, 4 PIM (tripping, slashing)
Season totals: 16 GP, 1-5-6, -10, 18 PIM

Brampton scored just one goal for the second straight game – both big losses. On Sunday they outshot visiting Sarnia, 31-15, but gave up four goals. Montreal first rounder Alex Galchenyuk had a goal and two assists for Steven Stamkos’ former junior club.

Windsor Spitfires 2 @ Owen Sound Attack 5

D Jake Dotchin, OS: 0-0-0, +2, 0 PIM
Season totals: 14 GP, 1-2-3, E, 14 PIM

Chris Marchese (undrafted) had two goals for Windsor. Dotchin has one point in his last 13 games and none in his last four.

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 6 @ Guelph Storm 2

C/W Tanner Richard, GUE: 0-1-1, +1, 9 PIM (boarding, instigating, fighting)
Season totals: 13 GP, 2-17-19, +6, 36 PIM

Richard extended his point streak to 11 games with a third period assist. The game was chippy, to say the least, and Richard was in the middle of it again. He was suspended earlier this year for instigating a fight in the last five minutes of a game. Today he started a fight in the second period. Richard continues to lead the OHL in assists (tied with Nick Cousins of the Soo) and he’s seventh in penalty minutes, 10 behind Oshawa’s Scott Sabourin. You don’t see the assist-PIM combination too often.

Peterborough Petes 3 @ Oshawa Generals 2 (SO)

D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM
Season totals: 14 GP, 2-9-11, -6, 12 PIM

Are the Petes turning the corner? Peterborough, who has struggled for much of the season, won their second straight game after five straight one-goal defeats. They’re playing competitive hockey and were rewarded with two wins this weekend. Slater Koekkoek has points in three straight games. The Petes’ captain is second on the team in scoring.

NA Juniors Game Night: 10-26-12

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Shawinigan Cataractes 0 @ Quebec Remparts 7

W Nikita Kucherov, QUE: Did not play
Season totals: 1-0-1, -1, 0 PIM

Kucherov sat out the game as Nick Sorensen was back in the lineup for Quebec. The Remparts can only dress two import players per game and right now the club has three possible starters from overseas: Sorensen, Kucherov, and Sabres first rounder Mikhail Grigorenko, who had a goal and an assist on Friday against the Cataractes. Adam Erne (2013) had four goals and an assist to pace the Remparts.

Moncton Wildcats 3 @ Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 2

C Cedric Paquette, BLB: 0-0-0, -1, 8 PIM (cross-checking, roughing, slashing, roughing), 2 SOG, 1 Hit
Season totals: 15 GP, 7-10-17, +11, 40 PIM

In a game broadcast on NHL Network, Paquette took four minor penalties and the Armada lost to Moncton, 3-2. The game winning goal was scored in the final minute of regulation with Paquette in the penalty box for roughing. Paquette was 10/27 on faceoffs in the game.

Owen Sound Attack 2 @ Kitchener Rangers 3 (SO)

D Jake Dotchin, OS: 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIM (roughing)
Season totals: 12 GP, 1-2-3, -1, 12 PIM

Matt Puempel (Senators) scored twice for the Rangers, who won in a shootout, 3-2. Kitchener won the skills competition, 1-0. Kitchener goaltender John Gibson (Ducks) stopped 42 of 44 shots in regulation and overtime, then 5 of 5 in the shootout.

Windsor Spitfires 6 @ Guelph Storm 4

C/W Tanner Richard, GUE: 0-1-1, E, 2 PIM (slashing)
Season totals: 11 GP, 2-15-17, +4, 27 PIM

Richard extended his point streak to nine games, which is tied for the second-longest current streak in the league (Connor McDavid, 13). Richard has two goals and 14 assists in those nine games.

NA Juniors Game Night: 10-25-12

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Baie-Comeau Drakkar 8 @ Quebec Remparts 2

W Nikita Kucherov, QUE: 1-0-1, -1, 0 PIM, 2 SOG, 0 Hits

Kucherov (pictured) made his long-awaited North American debut and scored early in the second period to give Quebec a 2-1 lead (WATCH). He showed a good burst and slick stickwork on the goal, which was scored on the forehand to the goalie's blocker side. There will be plenty more where that came from. Kucherov had missed the first six weeks of the season recovering from May shoulder surgery. That 2-1 lead quickly evaporated and the Drakkar put a snowman on the scoreboard in Bonhomme’s backyard. Quebec came into the game ranked No. 3 in all of Canadian juniors.

Ontario Hockey League

Brampton Battalion 1 @ Barrie Colts 2 (OT)

D Dylan Blujus, BRAM: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM
Season totals: 14 GP, 0-5-5, -7, 14 PIM

London Knights 5 @ Peterborough Petes 4

D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 0-2-2, +2, 0 PIM
Season totals: 12 GP, 2-7-9, -8, 12 PIM

The Petes lost their fifth consecutive one-goal game, this time falling to London at home. Peterborough held a 4-2 lead entering the third period, but was outshot 13-6 in the final stanza. 2011 Lightning prospect camper Seth Griffith had a goal for London, his 10th of the year. He was drafted by the Bruins last summer. Peterborough has one win in their last 10 games (1-6-2-1) and is tied with Ottawa for last in the OHL with 7 points. Peterborough has the fewest wins with two in 12 games.

D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM

Unfortunately, Koekkoek’s minus-10 rating is worst on the team; the closest to him is minus-5. The Petes are a struggling team and Koekkoek logs significant ice time.
