Kneel before the might and glory of a Brayden Coburn multi-point game.

NHL Preseason Game Night: 9-21-18 Lightning at Predators

9:25 TB Andreoff (1), (Dumont)(SH)

Third Period
17:12 TB Masin (1), (unassisted)(EN)

Adam Erne and Andy Andreoff were the game's first and second stars.

After a pair of ultra flat games against Carolina to start the preseason, the Lightning youth roared to life tonight in the First Period against a veteran NHL'er-laden Predators lineup to get the 3-0 lead and never look back. Kudos to the Lightning after a performance so bad in Carolina, I didn't write a story about it (actually, a full and complete box score was never published with correct goaltender statistics, so there's that).

Mathieu Joseph was +2 with 2 penalty minutes and 5 shots in 16:49. He's having a pretty good preseason. Knocking on the door.

Slater Koekkoek was +5(!) with 1 hit and 2 blocked shots in 20:10 of duty. Dare we dream this is the year for Slater?

Cameron Gaunce had 3 shots in 21:11.

Boris Katchouk had a goal and was +1 with 2 shots and 2 hits in 14:48. Goals in back to back preseason tilts for Katchouk.

Taylor Raddysh had 1 hit in 16:08.

Kevin Lynch had 1:00 of ice time.

Matthew Spencer had 1 hit in 15:00.

Anthony Cirelli had a helper and was +1 with 2 shots and 1 blocked shot in 19:12 and he was 56% on 18 draws.

Erne had 2 goals and was +2 with 3 shots and 2 hits in 15:31. Annual reminder that Adam Erne has the goods athletically, and just needs to stay healthy.

Dominik Masin had a goal and was +1 with 2 penalty minutes, 3 shots, and 3 blocked shots in 15:43.

Alexander Volkov had a helper and was +2 with 1 hit in 17:18.

Erik Cernak had 2 penalty minutes, 1 shot, and 1 hit in 20:35.

Ross Colton had a helper and was +1 with 2 penalty minutes and 2 shots in 10:18. He was also 38% on 8 draws.

"Ross is a 96’ Birthday and quickly got put on a lot of scout’s radar due to his excellent play in the USHL Top Prospects game this past year (3G 2A). While we don’t believe that any one game should tell the tale of a player, Ross’s complete body of work in Cedar Rapids this year, as well as his steady progression in his development make him an interesting overage pick for this year’s draft. Ross was Cedar Rapids most prolific scorer all season long, ending the season 14 pts ahead of the next
closest player, despite playing 5 less games. The Robbinsville N.J. native scored 35 goals in 55 games for the Rough Riders which was good for 2nd in the USHL. Ross is a smart and gifted offensive player, he continues to look for ways to improve and better his game. Ross is one of those players that doesn’t need a lot of separation to score and is good at identifying holes and finding a way to get open for the puck. His hockey IQ in the offensive zone is off the charts. Colton still needs to round out the rest of his game; his effort coming back into the play can be lacking and misses opportunities to apply back pressure and force turnovers. Colton is also susceptive to taking bad penalties, some out of frustration. There is no questioning Ross’s offensive instincts and skill. There is a decent chance Ross Colton will hear his name called in this year’s draft but we feel Ross is a prospect we would want to see how he progresses at the college level before making a decision on him. Colton will be off to The University of Vermont in the fall." -- HockeyProspect.com's Black Book

“He’s really smart, he’s competitive, he’s skilled and has a great shot. I think someone will draft him.” - USHL Scout (April 2016) via HP Black Book

Strengths:

Excellent hockey sense and developing skills. Size to compete in the pro ranks.

Weaknesses:

Has to improve his defensive game to earn ice time as a pro. Should take advantage of big role in Vermont to solidify himself for a contract.

Projection:

Scoring liner.
