Sunday's game in Elmira between the Jackals and the Thunder got terribly out of hand at 13:10 of the 3rd period. After two-plus periods of chippy play with several high stickings, slashings, boardings, and cross-checkings and the Jackals already ahead 5-1, a line brawl broke out including both goalies leaving their creases. In all, 11 players received misconducts and a total of 188 minutes of penalties were handed out for the game. Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier received a fighting major and 10-minute misconduct for a secondary altercation, and fellow prospect Dan Milan received a roughing minor and a fighting major. Milan did have the primary assist on Wichita's lone goal, a power-play marker in the 2nd period. Gauthier was held off the score sheet, but managed a game-high five shots despite missing the final 6:50 of the game. The road trip for the Thunder concludes Wednesday against the Oilers in Tulsa.

A night after being held of the score sheet in a 3-1 loss, the Wichita Wizard notched his first career hat trick to propel the Thunder to their own 3-1 road win against Brampton and earning First Star honors. After dueling to scoreless 1st and 2nd periods, the Beast jumped out to the 1-0 lead about midway through the 3rd period. And then Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier happened. About a minute later, Gauthier scored the equalizer unassisted, and followed up with the go-ahead marker with about three minutes left. Gauthier completed the natural hatter with an empty netter with 40 seconds remaining. Fellow Bolt prospect Dan Milan got the assist on the empty net insurance tally, leaving his mark on his former team. The road trip for the Thunder continues Sunday in upstate NY against the Elmira Jackals.

With Allen York sidelined with an injury, Florida's first ever game in Indy against the expansion Fuel was a wild affair with 13 goals scored. The Blades were ahead 6-3 at the 2nd intermission, but surrendered three 3rd period goals on 17 Indy shots. Jeff Costello notched his 4th goal of the season about 7 minutes into the 3rd that would stand as the eventual game winner. Lightning camper Mike Aviani would get the primary assist on Costello's marker. Fuel rookie blueliner Kirill Gotovets, a former Lightning 2009 7th round pick, played his 13th game of the season tonight for Indy. Gotovets signed an AHL contract in September with Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affiliate in Rockford and was reassigned by Rockford to Indy in October. Gotovets, a graduate of Cornell, had his rights traded to Chicago by Tampa in April 2012 for current BP Prospect-of-the-Week Philippe Paradis. Florida returns to Estero for a Wednesday home tilt against Elmira before Indy rolls into South Florida for back-to-back games next weekend.

Wichita Thunder 1 at Brampton Beast 3

F Danick Gauthier, WIC: 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM, 4 SOG
Season totals (ECHL): 19 GP, 8-10-18, +3, 12 PIM, 61 SOG
Season totals (AHL): 1 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM

D Daniel Milan, WIC: 0-0-0, E, 2 PIM, 5 SOG
Season totals: 19 GP, 0-3-3, -3, 34 PIM, 21 SOG

Not the homecoming Daniel Milan was looking for as the Thunder rolled into Brampton for Milan's first game against his old team. He did put up a season-high 5 shots, but Beast goalie Trevor Cann turned away 45 Thunder shots, upstaging Wichita netminder and Edmonton Oiler prospect Tyler Bunz who currently sports the ECHL's 2nd stingiest goals-against-average (Allen York is 4th). Followers of the Florida Everblades will recall that Cann was acquired last season by the Blades when Lightning prospect Kristers Gudlevskis was recalled to the Syracuse Crunch after parting ways with Riku Helenius. Cann appeared in 29 games for Florida last season posting a 15-10-1 record. The Beast also managed to do what few Central Division teams have been able to accomplish and that is keeping the Wichita Wizard Danick Gauthier off the scoreboard. The road trip for the Thunder continues Sunday in upstate NY against the Elmira Jackals.

ECHL Game Night: 11-30-14

Tulsa Oilers 3 at Wichita Thunder 2 SO

F Danick Gauthier, WIC: 1-0-1, E, 2 PIM, 6 SOG, *Second Star*

D Daniel Milan, WIC: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM, 0 SOG
Season totals: 18 GP, 0-3-3, -3, 32 PIM, 16 SOG

Another Sunday heartbreaker loss to Tulsa, once again in the shootout. Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier notched the power-play equalizer in the 2nd period and racked up a game-high 6 shots, garnering Second Star honors despite not converting in the shootout. It was Gauthier's third star in as many games (two 2nd's and a 3rd). Gauthier is now T-8 in the ECHL in scoring, T-5 in goals, T-2 in power play goals, and T-4 in power-play assists. Ten of Gauthier's eighteen points have come on the power-play this season. Meanwhile, Wichita is 0-5 against the Oilers, thrice losing in a shootout, once losing in overtime, and once by a single goal in regulation. Glen Campbell or Isaac Hayes doesn't write the heartbreak any better than that, folks. The Thunder hits the road next weekend for a three-in-three with a double date against Brampton, and a Sunday affair with Elmira.

They say all good things come to an end, which includes the Everblades 6-game win streak and Allen York's personal 8-game streak. Florida's 3rd period comeback falls 1 goal short, as Wheeling's Riley Brace scored two 2nd period power-play goals to break open a scoreless 1st period. York last lost on Oct 24th, and the Everblades had reeled off wins in 11 of their last 12 contests. Florida's big road trip continues Wednesday night in Kalamazoo against the Wings.

Allen Americans 1 at Wichita Thunder 3

F Danick Gauthier, WIC: 1-0-1, +1, 2 PIM, 3 SOG, *THIRD STAR*
Season totals (ECHL): 17 GP, 7-10-17, +5, 10 PIM, 51 SOG
Season totals (AHL): 1 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM

D Daniel Milan, WIC: 0-0-0, +1, 5 PIM, 1 SOG
Season totals: 17 GP, 0-3-3, -2, 32 PIM, 16 SOG

The Thunder now on a little 3-game win streak in an important home win against the division leading Americans. Lightning forward prospect Danick Gauthier potted the insurance goal with less than four minutes to play, earning Third Star honors. Dan "Stylin" Milan fought Gary Steffes in the 2nd period when the game was knotted 1-1. Wichita has clawed their way back up to 3rd in the division behind the Americans and the Tulsa Oilers, whom they play Sunday afternoon in Wichita.
