C Danick Gauthier, SNB: 1-2-3, +5, 0 PIM, 2 SOG, 1 Hit, *Second Star*
Season Totals: 64 GP, 45-38-83, +44, 63 PIM

Saint John did something no team has done in the history of the QMJHL Wednesday when they clinched the league’s regular season championship for the third straight year. Congrats to the Sea Dogs for that accomplishment. Helping them on Wednesday was newly signed Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier (pictured), who tied for the team lead with three points and led the club with a plus-5 rating. Gauthier’s 45th goal of the season opened the game’s scoring. Blues pick Ryan Tesink had two goals and was named first star.

Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 10 @ Gatineau Olympiques 4

D Adam Janosik, GAT: Did not play.
Season Totals: 49 GP, 6-25-31, -11, 49 PIM

That smarts. Janosik missed the bloodshed as he is in Slovakia completing some exams. He is expected back by the end of the week.

OHL

Oshawa Generals 2 @ Belleville Bulls 3 (OT)

D Geoffrey Schemitsch, OSH: 1-0-1, E, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 47 GP, 2-17-19, +8, 24 PIM
With Oshawa: 20 GP, 2-6-8, +5, 4 PIM
With Owen Sound: 27 GP, 0-11-11, +3, 20 PIM

Schemitsch scored for the second time this season to continue his recent offensive resurgence. He was a 40-point player in his draft year, but due to injuries and circumstance has fallen off that pace in the last two seasons. He is up for an NHL contract at the end of the year.

Season Totals: 63 GP, 44-36-80, +39, 63 PIM

The CHL’s top ranked team lost for the second time this week, dropping a 6-2 decision to the upcoming Memorial Cup hosts. Gauthier’s five-game point streak was snapped in the process. He had 11 points over those five games. Anton Zlobin had two goals and three assists for the Cataractes. Zlobin is projected to be a mid-round pick in the 2012 draft after being passed over last year. He has 39 goals and 74 points in 64 games. He is also plus-43. He had 45 points in 59 games in his initial draft year.

Season Totals: 49 GP, 6-25-31, -11, 49 PIM

Even without one of their defensive leaders in Adam Janosik, Gatineau upset the visiting Remparts from Quebec City. Janosik reportedly returned to his native Slovakia to take school tests. He is expected back Thursday.

Wilcox carried a shutout into the third period before conference-leading Omaha scored early in the final frame to take a 1-0 lead. They scored three more times, including an empty net goal, before the game ended. The Storm fell out of the last playoff spot and are now one point behind Sioux City, who beat Waterloo 7-2 and has a game in hand on Tri-City.

C Danick Gauthier, SNB: 2-0-2, E, 0 PIM, 6 SOG, 3 Hits
Season Totals: 62 GP, 44-35-79, +41, 61 PIM

Twice Gauthier tied the game for Saint John, but at the end of the shootout with the game on the line Gauthier couldn’t come through one final time. Kings second rounder Christopher Gibson stopped two of three shooters in the skills competition for the victory. With his two goals Friday, Gauthier moved into second place on his own in the Q goal scoring race. He’s still six behind Acadie-Bathurst’s Zach O’Brien (undrafted).

Gatineau Olympiques 5 @ Val-d’Or Foreurs 6 (OT)

D Adam Janosik, GAT: 1-0-1, +2, 2 PIM (holding), 0 hits
Season Totals: 49 GP, 6-25-31, -11, 49 PIM

Janosik was back in the lineup after missing last weekend with an illness and scored his sixth of the year for Gatineau to open the game’s scoring. He took a holding penalty in overtime, however, and the Foreurs capitalized on it with the game winning goal.

C Vladislav Namestnikov, LDN: 1-1-2, E, 2 PIM (cross-checking)
Season Totals: 59 GP, 22-48-70, +19, 50 PIM

Namestnikov broke a three-game scoreless streak with a goal and an assist Friday as London completed a two-game home-and-home sweep of Guelph. With two points he reached 70 for the season, which establishes a new career high for the Lightning first round draft pick. He also set a career high for penalty minutes in a season with two more added to his totals.

Prospect of the Week (3.6.12)

This season Bolt Prospects introduced our Prospect of the Week award, an honor (virtually) given to one Tampa Bay Lightning prospect for their on-ice contributions. There are no trophies or plaques, but we feel it’s second only to receiving a professional contract.

We wanted to highlight prospects throughout the year to help fans get better acquainted with the next round of Lightning stars while recognizing the prospect’s achievement on the ice.

This week’s BP Prospect of the Week award goes to … Danick Gauthier, C, Saint John (QMJHL)

North American Juniors Game Night: 3-4-12

USHL

Tri-City Storm 4 @ Omaha Lancers 3

G Adam Wilcox, TC: Win, 25 saves on 28 shots, *First Star*
Season Totals (with Tri-City): 25 GP, 12-13-1, 3.13 GAA, .909 sv%, 1 SO
Season Totals (with Green Bay): 9 GP, 7-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .918 sv%, 2 SO

He’s doing it again. After two bad losses to start the weekend, Wilcox was back in net for the third straight day and earned another first star in a Storm win. That gives him, unofficially, six in the last few weeks. With Sioux City idol on Sunday, Tri-City has taken over the final playoff spot in the USHL’s Western Conference. USHL observers say they have Wilcox to thank for that.

QMJHL

Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2 @ Saint John Sea Dogs 5 (Saturday)

C Danick Gauthier, SNB: 1-1-2, +2, 0 PIM, 2 SOG, 1 Hits, *First Star*
Season Totals: 61 GP, 42-35-77, +41, 61 PIM

Sorry folks, somehow I missed this late Saturday night, and it’s a shame because new Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier was first star for the Sea Dogs in their 5-2 win over the Titan. In addition to scoring a couple of points, Gauthier was 8/13 on faceoffs. His 42 goals this year are tied for second, eight behind leader Zack O’Brien of the Titan. O’Brien (undrafted) did not score against the Sea Dogs on Saturday. Gauthier is tied for 10th in the league in total points and is sixth in plus/minus behind five teammates.

Victoriaville Tigres 3 @ Gatineau Olympiques 2

D Daniel Milan, VIC: 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIM (interference), 0 SOG, 0 Hits
Season Totals: 57 GP, 2-8-10, -16, 59 PIM
With Victoriaville: 24 GP, 2-3-5, -3, 28 PIM
With Moncton: 33 GP, 0-5-5, -13, 31 PIM
D Adam Janosik, GAT: Did not play (illness)
Season Totals: 48 GP, 5-25-30, -13, 47 PIM

A day after putting up 10 goals on Moncton, Victoriaville only scored three in Gatineau on Sunday, but it was enough to win. Janosik continues to miss time with an illness. The Olympiques went 2-1 in his absence this weekend.

OHL

London Knights 1 @ Oshawa Generals 4

C Vladislav Namestnikov, LDN: 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIM (slashing)
Season Totals: 57 GP, 21-47-68, +19, 48 PIM
D Geoffrey Schemitsch, OSH: 0-2-2, +2, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 44 GP, 1-16-17, +6, 24 PIM
With Oshawa: 17 GP, 1-5-6, +3, 4 PIM
With Owen Sound: 27 GP, 0-11-11, +3, 20 PIM

For the second night in a row London was stymied by a hot goaltender, this time it was Kevin Bailie (undrafted) of Oshawa. Saturday night it was Petr Mrazek of Ottawa. Lightning prospect Geoffrey Schemitsch outpointed fellow Bolt prospect Vladislav Namestnikov in the game, 2-0. Schemitsch’s two assists were a season high and the most points he’s registered in a game since October 30, 2010, when he had three helpers. Namestnikov has fallen from among the league leaders in points to 22nd overall. Plymouth, who beat Sarnia on Sunday, closed to within two points of the Knights atop the Western Conference.
