Florida, which entered the final period of play trailing by a goal, scored three goals -- a game-tying tally early in the period, a late lead-taker and an empty-netter -- to polish off host Fort Wayne in the first of a two-game set. Kristers Gudlevskis saw a bit more action than he had in several preceding matches but delivered yet another sound performance between the pipes for the Everblades, earning the game's first star award. Gudlevskis narrowly out-dueled his counterpart, Andrey Makarov, a former teammate of Tampa Bay's 2012 1st-rounder, netminder Andrey Vasilevskiy. Danick Gauthier, Maxime Langelier-Parent, Charles Landry and Carl Neilsen missed the game being still on assignment with AHL Syracuse. Dan Milan was out of the lineup yet again. Florida (13-4-2, 28 PTS) will play Fort Wayne again (6-6-3, 15 PTS) on Saturday before returning home for a brief spell.

Florida built a two-goal lead heading into the third period before outscoring Kalamazoo 2-1 in the final frame to take the opener of its present three-game road trip. Kristers Gudlevskis won his second-consecutive start but allowing two goals meant his sterling 1.68 goals-against average (tops in the league) and his .928 save percentage (eighth-best) actually declined, albeit only by a very small margin. Maxime Langelier-Parent joined Danick Gauthier, Charles Landry and Carl Neilsen with AHL Syracuse. Dan Milan remained a scratch. Florida (12-4-2, 26 PTS) now has a Turkey Day battle against Fort Wayne (6-5-3, 15 PTS) on the docket.

Three of the Everblades six goals with with the man-advantage. The Solar Bears were unable to convert any of their five power play opportunities. Kristers Gudlevskis had a limited workload for the third-straight night but was able to turn aside all 22 Solar Bear shot attempts to earn his second shutout while manning the crease for the Everblades. Gudlevskis has now allowed two or fewer goals in all but one of his starts. Danick Gauthier, Charles Landry and Carl Neilsen remain with AHL Syracuse. Dan Milan and Maxime Langelier-Parent were scratched. Florida (11-4-2, 24 PTS) next has a few midweek road matches beginning with Kalamazoo (6-4-1, 13 PTS) on Wednesday.

Florida finally managed to solve netminder Garret Sparks early in the third period but surrendered a goal in the waning minutes of regulation to give Orlando its second-straight victory in the three-game weekend set between the two clubs. Sparks was sharp in goal for the Solar Bears, stopping 32 of 33 Everblades shots on goal. Sparks' counterpart, Lightning prospect Kristers Gudlevskis, also gave his squad a sound effort in net. Special teams was part of the difference tonight as the Solar Bears converted one of the six power play opportunities it was awarded while the Everblades came up short on all three of its shots with the man-advantage. Charles Landry, Danick Gauthier and Carl Nielsen remain up with AHL Syracuse. Florida (10-4-2, 22 PTS) and Orlando (10-5-1, 21 PTS) go at it again Saturday night.

Florida closed out its weekend with a compelling road victory over South Carolina to assume sole possession of first place in its division and the league's standings. The Everblades scored, won the special teams battle and the club's goaltender stood tall. Speaking of Kristers Gudlevskis, the Latvian netminder put up two stellar bodies of work this weekend after the slight hiccup that was his showing in Thursday night's loss to Gwinnett. Through his five ECHL starts and the AHL action he's already seen, Gudlevskis has kicked off his North American pro career in rather impressive fashion. Rearguard Dan Milan remained inactive. Recalled defenseman Charles Landry and forward Danick Gauthier are still with AHL Syracuse. Florida (10-2-2, 22 PTS) have a three-game set against Orlando divisional and interstate rival Orlando (8-5-1, 17 PTS) looming, with the puck dropping for the first match on Thursday night.

Kristers Gudlevskis, and Florida, rebounded from a frustrating loss to Gwinnett the night before, blanking their hosts to move into a tie back atop the South division. Gudlevskis saw another wild swing to his season stats as it was just the fourth match in an Everblades jersey for him, his second since rejoining the team. It's encouraging to see the young Latvian bounce back and earn his third victory after such a sub-par showing in Friday's contest. Blueliner Dan Milan was inactive while recalled defenseman Charles Landry and forward Danick Gauthier remain with Syracuse. Florida (9-2-2, 20 PTS) will finish its weekend with a road match against another divisional rival, red-hot South Carolina (9-0-2, 20 PTS), on Saturday.

After falling behind by a pair of goals shortly after the game's midpoint, Florida rallied and tied the game early in the third period but allowed a late goal to come up just short against host Gwinnett. After spending the past few weeks up with AHL Syracuse, Kristers Gudlevskis finally had a forgettable night in net and suffered his first loss as a pro. With only two previous games of action for the Everblades, Gudlevskis' stats took a big hit with tonight's performance. Dan Milan was a scratch yet again while recalled defenseman Charles Landry and forward Danick Gauthier remain with Syracuse. Florida (8-2-2, 18 PTS) and Gwinnett (4-8-0, 8 PTS) square off again Friday night.

AHL Game Night: 11-8-13 Crunch at Admirals

Two good teams squared off in a familiar place. Syracuse won this round.

SYR-2
NOR-1

Kristers Gudlevskis allowed just 1 goal on 24 shots for the win. He's unbeaten. He has a sub-2 GAA, and a save percentage of .924. I wouldn't be in a rush to return him to the Coast once Helenius is back up to speed, which begs the question of what the Lightning will choose to do with either Riku or Cedrick, if anything.

Third Period

Nikita Kucherov and Gudlevskis were the game's first and second stars. In my mind, the Lightning have an obvious dilemma coming up next season. By the time we roll into training camp next year, it's going to be fairly obvious that Jonathan Drouin, Kucherov, and Vladislav Namestnikov will be ready for Tampa Bay. Opening up 3 spots in Tampa Bay will be very challenging.

Norfolk's had a strong start to the season, so this was a high-quality win for Syracuse. The two teams are now tied with 17 points heading into the rematch at Scope tomorrow. Syracuse is now 1 point back of the top spot in the East Division and 2 points back for the Eastern Conference lead after a slow start to their campaign. That's not bad considering the lack of a consistent second line and the lack of consistent play on the backline. Wait 'til Zettler gets those pieces in shape.

AHL Game Night: 11-6-13 Crunch at Penguins

SYR-4
WBS-3 (SO)

Kristers Gudlevskis allowed 3 goals on 26 shots (including a rare OT penalty shot) before stopping all 4 he faced in the penalty shot session for the shootout win. Since coming up from the Everblades for an injured Riku Helenius, Gudlevskis has put up a very respectable 3-0-0 record with 1 shutout, a 2.21 GAA, and a .914 sv%.

Nikita Kucherov and Danick Gauthier were the game's first and third stars. Gauthier always amazes me with his ability to chip in despite always seemingly being on the fringe between the ECHL and AHL. This was Danick's second game up from the Coast and, as usual, he found a way to contribute. Depth is a wonderful thing.

Syracuse heads back to familiar territory Friday and Saturday to play Norfolk.

Nikita Kucherov and Vladislav Namestnikov were the game's first and second stars. As of this moment, Kucherov is 1 back of the AHL lead in points and up by 2 for the league lead in goals. Namestnikov had quietly snuck into a tie for 3rd in the AHL in scoring and, along with Kucherov, is tied with many others for 7th in the league in helpers. Nikita Nesterov also chipped in 1 goal and 1 assist and now has 1 goal and 6 points in his first 9 pro games in North America.

It took a while for the team to adjust to having J.P. Cote and Brett Connolly not in the lineup, but they continue to have an unstoppable power play and a top line that always gives them a puncher's chance in any situation. They'll head to Binghamton to play the Senators tomorrow night having now climbed to 5th in the Eastern Conference with their 5 game winning streak. Think what'll happen if they ever find consistency in the back and/or something resembling second line scoring.
