Hart, Brian

Bolt Prospect of the Week

We continue our Bolt Prospect of the Week award, an honor (virtually) given to one Tampa Bay Lightning prospect for his recent contributions on and off the ice.

The Bolt Prospect of the Week for the week ending November 17 is … Brian Hart, W, Greenville Swamp Rabbits (ECHL).

It's not often that the BP POTW award goes to a guy outside of our Top-25 rankings, which makes it extra special for Hart, who's finding his way in his first pro season in an organization with a deep pool of forward prospects.

The Lightning’s 2012 second round selection currently leads the Greenville Swamp Rabbits with 6 goals in 12 games, and all but one of those goals scored on the doorstep of the goal crease. This past weekend he scored twice in three games, including Saturday night's 3rd period game-winner against Adirondack that earned him First Star honors for the game.

Hart was drafted by the Lightning's Amateur Scouting group headed by Al Murray out of the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, then suited up for Harvard a year after Alex Killorn led the Crimson in scoring his senior year. Hart spent the last three years playing for Harvard, earning an ECAC championship with the Crimson last season and signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Lightning on June 28th. Hart's six goals in his first 12 pro games is one shy of his single season best of seven that he scored last year with Harvard.

As the Greenville special teams go, so goes the Swamp Rabbits. Greenville allowed two power play goals and did not convert any of their extra man situations, dropping a 4-1 road decision to the Gladiators at the Infinite Energy Arena at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, GA on Sunday afternoon. Allen York sat backup all three games, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday as head coach Brian Gratz decided to ride Jeff Malcolm all weekend. The Swamp Rabbits have just two games this coming week featuring home tilts against the Orlando Solar Bears on Tuesday night and Friday night against cross-state rival the South Carolina Stingrays.

Lightning prospect Brian Hart earned first star honors Saturday night, scoring the game winner and his team leading sixth goal of the season. A point shot off the end board bounced into his office in the crease, and Hart pushed it past the netminder capping off a Swamp Rabbit two-goal third period rally. Greenville killed off all eight penalties and scored a power play goal of their own. The Swamp Rabbits wrap up their weekend slate with a trip down I-85 for a rematch with the Gladiators in Atlanta Sunday afternoon.

It felt like the Swamp Rabbits unleashed six games of winless frustration on an unsuspecting Atlanta squad Thursday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville. Lightning prospect Brian Hart scored his team leading fifth goal of the season, ripping a top shelf wrister from the hash marks. Fellow prospect Daniel Walcott, just reassigned from Syracuse earlier in the week, had a strong game in his debut with 3 shots and +2 rating. The Swamp Rabbits special teams shone bright with 1005 perfection on both the penalty kill and the power play. Greenville take Friday night off before hosting Adirondack Saturday night and a rematch with the Gladiators in Atlanta Sunday afternoon.

Lightning prospect Brian Hart scored Greenville's lone goal in Saturday night's 5-1 road loss to the Reading Royals. It was Hart's team-leading 4th goal of the season, and he scored it from his office on the doorstep of the crease poking in a rebound. One encouraging development from Hart's assignment in Greenville is that he is emerging as that big body in front of the net that both the Crunch and the Lightning need.

Riding a four-game losing streak, the Swamp Rabbits needed Allen York to come out and pitch a sparkling performance in net, but once again he allowed 5 goals including 4 in a deflating 2nd period. Greenville's nothing special teams were once again on display, allowing 2 power play goals on four attempts, and going scoreless on the power play in three tries. The Swamp Rabbits conclude their three game weekend road swing in a Sunday afternoon rematch with the Royals.

The Swamp Rabbit hit the road this weekend for a three-in-three, starting with a tilt against the Norfolk Admirals. The Admiral scored twice in the first and twice in the third to seal Greenville's fourth straight loss after a 3-1 start to their season. Allen York sat backup after a rough start to the season and the Rangers organization reassigning goalie Mackenzie Skapski from Hartford. What this means is that York will likely get just the Saturday night start this weekend, and more importantly no room for Lightning prospect Adam Wilcox. For the Swamp Rabbits, yet another game allowing 30+ shots, a defunct power play sitting at 12% that has allowed as many SHG as PPG scored, and a penalty kill sitting second-to-last in the league at 73.1%. Greenville travels to Reading for a two-night engagement with the Royals.

Not much good to say about the Swamp Rabbits tilt Sunday afternoon against the Florida Everblades. Allen York got the start but was pulled in the 2nd period after allowing 4 goals on 18 shots. York is still looking for his first win of the season and he's sporting almost 5 goals against in his 3 games thus far. For Syracuse Crunch fans and Lightning prospect followers, the Everblade trio of Mike Aviani, Kevin Lynch, and Gabriel Desjardins all contributed to the Greenville shellacking. Lightning camper Mike Aviani scored the first two goals of the game as part of a 4-point effort. Lynch also scored and added an assist as well, while Desjardins also added an assist. Greenville dropped all three games of their weekend home stand, falling to the cellar in the South Division at 3-4-0-0. The Swamp Rabbits hit the road next weekend for a Friday night game against Norfolk, followed by Saturday and Sunday games in Reading.

Brian Hart opened the scoring Halloween night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, his second goal in as many nights and third of his last four games. Hart once again scored from his greasy office on the goalies front porch. All three of Hart's goals this season have come in and around the blue paint. After building a 2-0 lead in the 1st period, the Swamp Rabbits would surrender three third period goals to the IceMen in a heartbreaker loss in front of their home crowd. Greenville threw 44 shots at Evansville netminder Scott Greenham, but Ottawa native shut the door after the first period to give his team a chance to rally. In net for the Swamp Rabbits was Adam Morrison, who was signed on October 23rd when Allen York was recalled to Syracuse following the recall of Kristers Gudlevskis to Tampa. Now with Kevin Poulin and Gudlevskis bot in Syracuse, it remains to be seen if Greenville might soon have Tampa prospect goalie Adam Wilcox supplant Morrison as York's partner in the crease. Greenville concludes their three game weekend homestand Sunday afternoon against the Florida Everblades.

Brian Hart scored his second goal of the season Friday night early in the 3rd period, but the Swamp Rabbits came up short against the visiting Atlanta Gladiators. Greenville opened and closed the scoring, but Gladiator captain and long-time ECHL vet Derek Nesbitt scored two power play goals and assisted on a third power play tally. Allen York, returned from Syracuse with Vasilevskiy's conditioning assignment, got stuck with a tough loss defending against seven Atlanta power plays and 44 shots. Greenville continues their weekend three-game home stand Halloween night against Evansville.
