Shane Owen, who shut out Reading on Friday, stopped just 17 of 22 on Saturday night as the Royals topped the ‘Blades in overtime. Reading scored the game tying goal while shorthanded with under two minutes left in the game. That hurts. At least Florida gets a point. Remember a couple weeks ago when they had a chance to take over sole possession of first in the South Division? They’re now 11 points out of first and in last, six points behind Greenville.

The good news is Florida snapped their six-game losing streak. The bad news – for Lightning prospect followers – is Shane Owen was brought in to push Nagle and, according to reports, strengthen the goaltending. Owen got the shutout on Friday night while Nagle watched. Nagle is 1-4-2 in 2012. Owen played a game for Florida last season and was playing with Utah. He was a teammate of Lightning prospect Mark Barberio in QMJHL Moncton a few years ago.

Greenville peppered Lightning prospect goalie Pat Nagle with 16 shots in the final period. Nagle stopped a total of 38 shots in regulation and overtime, but gave up two goals on four attempts in the skills competition. Recently re-assigned Norfolk defensemen Charles Landry and Kevin Quick – both of whom saw time at forward for a depleted Admirals squad – played for the Everblades on Thursday. Quick (pictured) had an assist on the game’s opening goal. Of note: Lightning prospect forward Alex Hutchings, out since mid-November with an upper-body injury, has resumed skating with the team.

Pat Nagle won his fourth game in a row, stopping 30 of 31 shots Thursday in Greenville for a big Florida win. The Everblades are now tied with Greenville for second in the South Division, five points behind Gwinnett. Statistically, the solid effort Thursday dropped Nagle’s goals against average below 3 and his raised his save percentage over 90%. Reports said Nagle worked with Lightning goaltender coach Franz Jean a couple weeks ago, which helped Nagle's game. Jean meets with Nagle once a month. This was the first game since The ‘Blades (and Nagle) were involved in a line brawl. Florida played without Philip-Michael Devos and Charles Landry, who were recalled recently by AHL Norfolk. Alex Hutchings remains out with an upper-body injury. He hasn’t played since November 12.
