NHL Game Night: 1-11-20 Lightning at Flyers

Back to back unleashing of kittens.

TB-1
PHI-0

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 23 shots he faced for his second straight shutout. He's getting nicely ensconced in the zone. This was one of those games where he made it look easy, but it surely wasn't.

Second Period
7:27 TB Maroon (6), (unassisted)

Third Period

Vasilevskiy and Patrick Maroon were the game's first and third stars.

Ten straight wins now for the Lightning, and what you love to see is the synergy between lock down defense, good possession, and a goaltender fully rounding into form. It's a potent looking formula right now as the team just tied the franchise record with ten straight victories. And because of that, they're winning games multiple ways, tonight looking dominant even though they were in a tight 1-0 bout on the scoreboard.

Carter Verhaeghe had 1 hit and 2 blocked shots in 11:17.

Mitchell Stephens was +1 with 2 penalty minutes, 3 shots, and 1 hit in 13:46. He was also 63% on 8 draws. To my eyes, he's been the prize of this year's crop of prospects breaking into the NHL for the Lightning.

Alexander Volkov had 2 shots, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 11:01.

AHL Game Night: 12-7-19 Sound Tigers at Crunch

Syracuse decides to go streaking behind Volkov.

BRI-2
SYR-5

Spencer Martin allowed 2 goals on 31 shots for the victory.

First Period
1:44 SYR Gaunce (3), (Volkov, Thomas)
7:22 SYR Raddysh (4), (Volkov, Gaunce)

Second Period
5:06 BRI Wotherspoon (2), (McDonald, Lorito)
17:07 SYR Volkov (1), (Mueller, Thomas)(SH)

Third Period
9:00 BRI Schilkey (5), (Kuhnhackl, Aho)
11:17 SYR Raddysh (5), (Foote, Conacher)(PP)
12:07 SYR Mueller (8), (Raddysh, Volkov)

Alexander Volkov, Taylor Raddysh, and Martin were the game's three stars. It's crazy that was Volkov's, a two time 20 goal scorer, first goal of the season. His 1-3-4 night hopefully portends good things moving forward, just like Raddysh's 2-1-3.

NHL Game Day: 11-9-19 Sabres at Lightning (In Sweden)

Lightning sweep Global Series set.

BUF-3
TB-5

Curtis McElhinney allowed 3 goals on 43 shots for the victory.

First Period
9:30 BUF Reinhart (8), (Johansson, Montour)
17:02 TB Maroon (2), (Gourde, Shattenkirk)(PP)

Second Period
1:58 TB Hedman (3), (Stamkos, Kucherov)(PP)
19:57 TB Maroon (3), (Paquette, Shattenkirk)

Third Period
4:14 BUF Olofsson (7), (Eichel, Reinhart)
9:48 TB Gourde (4), (Paquette)
10:55 TB Joseph (4), (Killorn, Cirelli)
19:22 BUF Eichel (8), (Ristolainen, Dahlin)

Patrick Maroon and Yanni Gourde were the game's first and second stars. Gourde getting on the scoresheet in these Global Series games is an understated deal for the Lightning as the whole team is trying to emerge from a bit of an early season slumber.

We'll see how the team responds once they get back to North America, but it's easy to think this might be a turning point for the Lightning this season. They still need at least six points over their next five games to maintain solid playoff pacing, but it's night and day when you think about where this team was sitting before the Global Series.

Alexander Volkov had 1 shot in 10:17.

NHL Game Day: 11-8-19 Lightning at Sabres (In Sweden)

Lightning get back on track in Global Series opener.

TB-3
BUF-2

Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed 2 goals on 22 shots for the victory.

First Period
3:19 TB Kucherov (5), (Point, Shattenkirk)
16:14 TB Killorn (3), (Hedman, Stamkos)(PP)

Second Period
15:43 BUF Reinhart (6), (Ristolainen, McCabe)

Third Period
7:45 TB Gourde (3), (Maroon, Paquette)
11:30 BUF Reinhart (7), (Jokiharju, Olofsson)

Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman were the game's first and third stars.

The Lightning, who got a week to regroup and get healthy, played a game that checked off a lot of the boxes as they try to regroup in this second ten game segment of the year. They're still a bit behind the eight ball needing eight points over the next six games to stay on playoff pace for the year, but this was a good start.

Alexander Volkov was -2 with 1 shot and 3 hits in 10:36.
