Volkov, Alexander

NHL Preseason Game Night: 9-18-18 Hurricanes at Lightning

Woof.

CAR-4
TB-1

Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed 4 goals on 35 shots for the loss.

First Period
4:06 CAR Cajkovsky (1), (McKegg)
13:05 Wallmark (1), (Bean, Svechnikov)(PP)

Second Period
19:09 CAR Zykov (1), (Brown, VanReimsdyk)

Third Period
4:38 TB Joseph (1), (Raddysh, Johnson)(PP)
7:11 CAR Svechnikov (1), (DiGiuseppe, Wallmark)(PP)

Mathieu Joseph was the game's third star.

It was the first preseason game, so we should put very little weight on this one. Still, you'd have hoped for a little better with a lot of your top back end players in the lineup, but the team just lacked possession in the preseason opener.

Joseph had a goal and was -1 in 15:17 with 3 shots and 2 hits in 15:17.

Alexei Lipanov had 1 shot and was 30% on 10 draws in 9:34. I kind of expect him to get a copy of the home game and to be returned to junior expeditiously, but we'll see.

Taylor Raddysh had a helper and was -1 in 11:49.

Jonne Tammela had 1 hit in 9:19.

Dominik Masin had 4 penalty minutes and 1 blocked shot in 15:59.

Alexander Volkov had 1 shot and 1 hit in 18:40 in premier minutes with the top liners.

Gabriel Fortier was -1 with 2 penalty minutes and 2 hits in 13:16. I'd expect he also goes the same route back to junior sooner rather than later, although he got a good amount of minutes relative to more established prospects tonight.

Matthew Peca, Alexander Volkov, and Erik Condra were the game's three stars.

The Crunch probably made this one a lot more exciting than it needed to be after staking themselves to a 4-1 lead early in the Second Period and surrendering a shorty to allow the Americans off the canvas. With that said, I'd have to think it's a pretty good endorsement of this past June's draft that Volkov and Cal Foote both figured in the eventual game winner.

Syracuse did what they needed to do by holding serve at home. But, just like with the big club, I have to caution that it's not a series until someone wins a road game. The Crunch can't get too high right now and need to play a solid road style to try to shorten this series and move along quickly. Nothing fancy. Just survive and advance as quickly as possible in this opening round best-of-five encounter.

AHL Game Night: 4-14-18 Americans at Crunch

Skeleton crew Crunch lose regular season finale.

RCH-4

Alexander Volkov and Olivier Archambault were the game's second and third stars.

Syracuse iced a roster filled with PTO's and recalls from Adirondack. These two teams will meet again now in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs with a very different Crunch team next time around.

AHL Game Night: 3-30-18 Senators at Crunch

Alexander's greatness puts red hot Crunch over Belleville.

BEL-1
SYR-4

Eddie Pasquale allowed 1 goal on 28 shots for the victory.

First Period
3:19 BEL Leier (2), (Paul)
5:57 SYR Volkov (20), (Dumont, Gallant)

Second Period
10:08 SYR Volkov (21), (Joseph, Thomas)

Third Period
3:16 SYR Joseph (15), (Dumont)
16:12 SYR Lynch (14), (Lipanov, Verhaeghe)

Alexander Volkov, Pasquale, and Gabriel Dumont were the game's three stars. Volkov becomes the first Crunch player to clear 20 goals this season, which is quite the rookie campaign for a 2nd round pick who didn't have a huge body of work coming into this season. He's definitely justified the love of the Lightning scouts.

Syracuse is 8-0-0-1 in their last nine games and, oh by the way, the game's about to be a-Foote.
