There will be no repeat Kelly Cup championship. Down 2-0 just past the midpoint of the second period, Florida saw its playoff hopes slowly fading away before Reading dashed them entirely by tacking on a couple goals in the waning minutes of regulation play. Brandon MacLean managed to strike for the Everblades in order to prevent the goose-egg. Shots ended up looking balanced at 26-25 in favor of Reading for the match but Reading carried the balance of play in what proved to be a critical second period. Jesse Deckert, the late-season free agent pickup who was impressive in Florida's final stretch of regular season games, stopped 22 of 26 shots in the contest. Deckert finished the playoffs 7-4-1 having played in all but one of the Everblades postseason matches, posting a 3.17 GAA and .896 SV% in that span. Charles Landry, the Lightning's sole prospect to see action in the playoffs so far, went pointless through the Florida's last nine playoff games.

Florida later added an empty-netter. Everblades netminder Jesse Deckert, who has delivered uneven results against stiff competition following his prolific stint to close out the regular season, turned in a rock-solid performance, stopping 28 of 29 shots against. Deckert was especially strong during the final period of play when Reading managed a 13-5 shot advantage. Florida will have a chance to push the Eastern Conference's best regular season club to the brink of elimination in the friendly confines of German Arena come Friday night in Estero.

The Eastern Conference's best club during the regular season, the Royals again managed to more than double up the Everblades in shots, by a margin of 40-17. Florida again went 1-for-4 with the man-advantage while Reading was slightly more efficient in this contest than in the opening match, scoring once on five power play opportunities. Jesse Deckert was yanked in favor of Brady Hjelle after stopping just 11 of 14 shots in 20:18 of action. Hjelle played the next 38:21, fending off all 26 Royals shots in the process. Florida, which never trailed in the opening match of the series, took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission but had to retake the lead after a lackluster start to the second period saw the game tied and fend off the Eastern Conference's top club during the course of the regular season for the better part of the final half of the contest. The host Royals doubled up the Everblades in shots, 37-16, hammering the visitors particularly hard with a 14-shot, 2-goal second period that Florida only salvaged by scoring on one of the mere 3 shots it managed to muster. Florida's special teams play, which was so critical to its first round success, shined again as the Everblades went 1-for-4 with the man-advantage while the penalty-killers negated 6 of 7 Royals opportunities. Jesse Deckert did an admirable job holding the fort, thwarting 34 of 37 shots against. Both teams square off again Saturday night in Reading.

Unlike the previous game, the Everblades had little difficulty generating offense, managing to pump out double-digit shot totals (in sum, 37) in all three periods. Florida also won the special teams battle, going 2-for-5 with the man advantage while stonewalling Elmira on all three of its power play opportunities.
