The Thunder and Rush battled to an 11 round shootout before Rapid City finally secured the extra point. Danick Gauthier failed to convert in the shootout, and was held pointless in his 3rd straight game. His goal-drought now stands at 5 straight games. Feels like Gauthier is in a mini-funk since the Dec 7th thug-fest in Elmira when he received a fighting major and a 10 minute misconduct. In those seven games, Gauthier is 1-3-4 in contrast to the 11-10-21 in the 20 games prior. Wichita now breaks for the holidays, with their next game on Dec 27th against the division leading Americans.

Once again, Florida spotted Gwinnett two 1st period goals, but stormed back with four-straight goals to keep their seven-game win streak alive. At the head of the rally was Lightning defensive prospect Artem Sergeev who notched his sixth goal of the season, and goals in back-to-back games against the Gladiators. Sergeev was on the ice for three of Florida's five goals, earning First Star of the game. With 10 points in 19 games, Sergeev is on pace for a 20 goal/40 point season. Jeff Costello also scored in the 4-goal rally and earned Third Star honors. The Everblades now break for the holidays, not playing again until Dec 27th against Orlando.

Life, at least temporarily, without Allen York began for the Everblades Wednesday night after his recall to Syracuse earlier in the week as part of the ripple effect of the Ben Bishop injury. Gwinnett jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Blades stormed back scoring five straight, topped off by Bolt prospect Artem Sergeev's power-play marker early in the 3rd that would become the eventual game-winner. Kevin Lynch, fresh off signing his AHL contract with Syracuse, tallied in his first game back with Florida. Both Jeff Costello and Mike Aviani had helpers in the five-goal run. Gwinnett, losers of four straight, will get another chance to end the East Division leader's six-game win streak on Friday night.

The Blades bent but didn't break in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win against visiting Indy, preserving a 5-game win streak behind Adam Brace's hat trick on teddy bear toss night. A roller coaster affair with Florida charging out of the gate with three 1st period goals and then the Fuel responding with three 2nd period goals. The Everblades peppered Indy with 48 shots, and Allen York was tested in the 2nd and 3rd periods giving up 4 goals before making 28 saves for his 12th win. York made three saves in OT and then stuffed all four Fuel shooters in the skills match to earn 3rd Star honors. Lightning camper Mike Aviano scored Florida's 2nd goal with Jeff Costello drawing an assist. The Gwinnett Gladiators roll into Estero for a pair of games this week.

Feels good to get the funk out. Wichita pasted the Mallards in a 5-zip shutout and Danick Gauthier notched two assist, one on the power play. Wichita returns to Tulsa Wednesday night to play Oilers.

The visiting Indy Fuel with former Bolt prospect Kirill Gotovets failed in a 3rd period two-goal rally against the Everblades in Estero. Lightning prospect Artem Sergeev assisted on what would be Mitch Wahl's 2nd period game winning marker. Allen York notched his 11th victory in light duty, seeing only 17 Indy shots. Florida owns the ECHLs best win percentage, sporting a gaudy 0.825 having won 4 straight and 9 of their 10 games and owning a +28 goal differential. The Blades and Fuel rematch Saturday night.

Quad City Mallards 3 at Wichita Thunder 1

F Danick Gauthier, WIC: 0-0-0, -3, 0 PIM, 5 SOG
Season totals (ECHL): 23 GP, 12-11-23, -2, 31 PIM, 79 SOG
Season totals (AHL): 1 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM

D Daniel Milan, WIC: 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM, 2 SOG
Season totals: 23 GP, 0-5-5, -5, 53 PIM, 26 SOG

After an extended road trip, the Thunder returned home for a tilt against the Quad City. Wichita Wichita feels like they have been in a funk since that 180+ PIM brawl in Elmira, and Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier is struggling defensively. On the ice for all three Mallard goals, Gauthier is mired in a mini-funk of his own after racking up 15 PIMs of his own in that raucous Jackals game. The Mallards leap-frogged the Thunder in the Central Division with Friday's win as Wichita rides a 3-game losing streak and only 4 wins in their last 10. No time to hang your head, Wichita takes on Rapid City Saturday night.
