Alex Hutchings gave Florida a 2-1 lead just a couple minutes into the second period but Gwinnett was back ahead before the start of the final frame where Brayden Irwin scored a PP goal for the visitors to push them into the extra session where the South division's top club finally dispatched them. Despite being crushed in even-strength scoring, Florida, which was outshot 39-29 in the contest, relied on a superb special teams effort, scoring all of its goals on the power play opportunities and only failing to produce on one while killing all three of Gwinnett's chances with the man-advantage. Hutchings, who notched his 11th of the season with the Everblades on the power play by parking himself in front of the net, corralling a feed from behind the net by Leigh Salters and stuffing the puck past Gladiators netminder Louis Domingue, now has goals in two-straight games. Landry's two-game point-scoring streak came to a swift conclusion. Rob Madore was in net again for the Everblades with John Muse backing him up with Pat Nagle out of the lineup. Maxime Langelier-Parent, still recovering from an injury sustained early in the season, were inactive. Florida (15-12-7, 39 PTS) ends its road trip with a Sunday afternoon tilt against South Carolina (16-18-4, 36 PTS).

Florida managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat Friday night, scoring five third-period goals, capped off by Alex Hutchings' empty-netter, in a span of roughly fourteen minutes to stun divisional rival Greenville. Matthew Pistilli, newly acquired from South Carolina, scored twice in his return to the Everblades. Pistilli previously scored seventeen goals and eighteen assists for Florida over the course of thirty-eight games split between the 2010-2011 and 2009-2010 seasons. Andrew Yogan, the first Florida-raised player drafted (4th round, 2010) by an NHL team (the New York Rangers), opened the game's scoring for the Road Warriors. With his second assist in as many games, Landry now has his first point-scoring streak of the season. Hutchings returned to the scoresheet after going pointless in Florida's last three matches. Carolina G prospect John Muse backed up Rob Madore, who stopped twenty-four shots in the match, as Pat Nagle was inactive for the Everblades. It was 3-0 before Florida finally got on the board nearing the midpoint of the second period but division-rival Orlando tacked on a two more goals in the final frame to complete a lopsided road victory in the first of what will be five games played between the division-rivals at the end of next weekend. John Muse (24/29) made his seventh-straight start in net and David Rutherford scored the lone goal for the Everblades. Alex Hutchings, who produced at just over a point-per-game clip in November, is still scoreless since returning from extended absence, upon which he has played in four matches. Both teams closed the first two periods knotted at two goals each but Toledo pulled ahead and soon after added an insurance goal in the third period to bring Florida's five-game winning streak to an abrupt end. Fatigue may have been a significant factor for the Everblades, who were playing their third game in four nights at the tail end of a lengthy road trip, as they struggled to generate consistent offensive momentum, managing just twenty shots in a match that was played almost entirely at even-strength. John Muse made his sixth-straight start and stopped thirty of thirty-four shots in the contest. After missing the last two matches, Pat Nagle returned to the lineup to serve as Muse's backup. Alex Hutchings, who produced at just over a point-per-game clip in November, is scoreless in the three games he's played in December since returning from extended absence. The trio of Lightning prospects (Hutchings, Landry and Milan) barely registered on the stat sheet but were part of a stifling defense that kept the Wings offense in check, especially over the course of the final two frames.
