Florida scored six times in the third period on their way to a huge win over the visiting Wings. Charlotte goalie John Muse was back in an Everblades sweater but Lightning prospect Pat Nagle got the start in net for the ‘Blades and earned his 19th win of the season. Despite the lopsided goal differential, Florida only outshot Kalamazoo by one. Rylan Galiardi had a hat trick plus an assist for Florida and defenseman Bobby Raymond was plus-6 on the night. Raymond came out of the same Burlington Cougars program in Ontario that produced Cory Conacher.

Chicago broke open a close game with two second period goals, then exploded for two more within 24 seconds of each other early in the third period. After trading goals Florida cut the lead to 5-2 with a minute and a half to go in the game, but couldn’t get any closer despite pulling their goalie. Florida is holding on for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of Chicago, who has a game in hand on the 'Blades.

Florida Everblades 1 @ Cincinnati Cyclones 2

Season Totals: 21 GP, 11-11-22, +6, 22 PIM
D Charles Landry, FLA: 0-0-0, -1, 0 SOG, 0 PIM

G Pat Nagle, FLA: Loss, 30 saves on 32 shots
Season Totals: 35 GP, 17-13-0-3, 2.83 GAA, .905 sv%, 1 SO

This was a big loss for the Everblades considering the Cyclones came into the game two points behind Florida for seventh in the East. Both teams are barely hanging on to a playoff spot. Sebastien Piche, who was acquired by the Lightning from the Red Wings organization earlier this week, made his debut for Florida. Piche, who had 33 points for ECHL Toledo last year in 48 games, was playing his first ECHL game this season. He played in 22 contests for AHL Grand Rapids, registering three assists. He provides Florida with offense from the backline and gives AHL Norfolk some defensive depth for their impending playoff run.

Alex Hutchings had his six game point streak snapped and Pat Nagle had his three game win streak broken. Florida plays in Chicago Saturday night.

Prospect of the Week (2.22.12)

This season Bolt Prospects introduced our Prospect of the Week award, an honor (virtually) given to one Tampa Bay Lightning prospect for their on-ice contributions. There are no trophies or plaques, but Evan Oberg has donated some airline miles for the winner.
And a luggage set. And a shortcut around the trams at Tampa International.

We wanted to highlight prospects throughout the year to help fans get better acquainted with the next round of Lightning stars while recognizing the prospect’s achievement on the ice.

This week’s BP Prospect of the Week award goes to … Pat Nagle, Goaltender, Florida (ECHL).

ECHL Game Night: 2-18-12

South Carolina Stingrays 1 @ Florida Everblades 2 (OT)

Season Totals: 20 GP, 11-11-22, +8, 22 PIM
D Charles Landry, FLA: 1-0-1, E, 3 SOG, 0 PIM, *First Star*
Season Totals: 17 GP, 2-4-6, +3, 4 PIM
D Kevin Quick, FLA: 0-0-0, +1, 1 SOG, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 14 GP, 0-5-5, -3, 2 PIM (Norfolk property)
G Pat Nagle, FLA: Win, 32 saves on 33 shots, *Second Star*
Season Totals: 34 GP, 17-12-0-3, 2.86 GAA, .904 sv%, 1 SO

It was another good night for Lightning prospects and draftees in southwest Florida. One night after Hutchings, Kevin Quick, and Nagle were the game’s three stars, Lightning prospect Charles Landry was first star, followed by Nagle and Hutchings after the ‘Blades topped the Stingrays in overtime. Hutchings had the game winner for Florida and set up Landry for Landry’s second professional goal. Landry’s goal was scored when his slap shot from the point found its way to the back of the net. Hutchings scored from a knee while banging in a rebound with 2:17 to go in overtime. He has 10 points (four goals) in six games since he came back from missing three months with an injury. Considering his strong start to the year, one wonders if he wouldn’t be in AHL Norfolk now if it wasn’t for the injury. Not to be forgotten, Nagle was only beat on a breakaway that occurred when Florida got caught in a line change. He has three straight wins. Florida won four of five from South Carolina over the last two weeks. They are now four points behind the Stingrays in the South Division and remain four points up on Cincinnati as the East’s seventh seed. (Photo courtesy of swamphockey.com)
