Quebec Remparts 3 @ Shawinigan Cataractes 2 (OT)

W Nikita Kucherov, QUE: Did not play
Season totals: 6 GP, 3-7-10, -1, 2 PIM

Nikita Kucherov sat for the second straight game, then after the game reports began to surface that Kucherov was on the QMJHL trading block. One reporter said Kucherov had been playing “lazy.” Quebec has three import players and one has to move, though it was assumed Kucherov and his good friend Mikhail Grigorenko would be the ones staying. Nick Sorensen is the other import player. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Kucherov was a surprise Import Draft selection because few expected him to be interested in coming to North America. Quebec’s Patrick Roy knew something others didn’t, and having Grigorenko on the Remparts was no doubt a big help in getting that talented Kucherov to North America. Kucherov could choose to return to Russia if he’s not happy with his next playing situation. Stay tuned.

Ontario Hockey League

Brampton Battalion 4 @ Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds 3

D Dylan Blujus, BRAM: 1-0-1, E, 0 PIM
Season totals: 22 GP, 2-8-10, -9, 20 PIM

Dylan Blujus scored his second goal of the year in a 4-3 win in Wayne Gretzky’s old stomping grounds. The Soo had a 2-0 lead entering the second period before the Battalion scored three times in the middle frame. Blujus had seven goals in 66 games last year.

Owen Sound Attack 2 @ London Knights 5

D Jake Dotchin, OS: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season totals: 21 GP, 1-4-5, E, 22 PIM

Former Lightning camper Seth Griffith (Bruins) had a goal and two assists for London and was given First Star honors. Griffith and Lightning prospect Vladislav Namestnikov were linemates last year in London. With the win, the Knights leapfrogged the Attack for first in the Midwest Division. They also took over the OHL lead in points by one over Barrie and Owen Sound.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Quebec Remparts 4 @ Rimouski Oceanic 5

W Nikita Kucherov, QUE: Did not play
Season totals: 6 GP, 3-7-10, -1, 2 PIM

Nikita Kucherov and his 6-game point streak were scratched on Wednesday as fellow Rempart import Nick Sorensen took his place in the lineup. CHL teams can only dress two import players, and Mikhail Grigorenko is the team points leader, so he’s unlikely to come out. Sorensen (2013), who has sat for the last handful of games, had a goal and an assist in the Remparts’ loss to Rimouski. Grigorenko (Sabres) had a goal to give him 17 in 19 games. He has 37 points this year. The Lightning skipped over Grigorenko in the 2012 draft in favor of defenseman Slater Koekkoek, which better filled an organizational need. Sooner or later Quebec General Manager Patrick Roy will have to trade one of his import stars, especially if the NHL lockout continues so the Sabres can’t solve that problem for him.

Val-d’Or Foreurs 3 @ Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2

D Artem Sergeev, VDO: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, 1 SOG, 0 Hits

Guelph Storm 1 @ Belleville Bulls 2 (SO)

C/W Tanner Richard, GUE: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM
Season totals: 19 GP, 2-22-24, +4, 42 PIM

Belleville’s Malcolm Subban (Bruins) won a goaltending battle with Garrett Sparks (Leafs) as the Bulls defeated the Storm, 2-1, in a shootout. Subban was 35/36 in regulation and overtime, then 1 for 2 in the shootout. That was good enough to beat Sparks, who had 41 saves through overtime, but was 0 for 2 in the shootout. Malcolm’s brother, Jordan, scored the shootout winner for Belleville. Lightning prospect Tanner Richard did not participate in the shootout, but had the primary assist on Guelph’s second period goal.

Blujus (pictured) earned his sixth point in his last seven games, but fellow Lightning prospect Jake Dotchin and the Owen Sound Attack won the game, 5-3. Dotchin, who has two points in his last four games, matched Blujus with an assist.

C/W Tanner Richard, GUE: Did not play
Season totals: 17 GP, 2-20-22, +5, 40 PIM

Richard was not in the lineup for Sarnia’s 4-2 road win over Guelph. Habs first rounder Alex Galchenyuk had the game-winning goal for the Sting.

Peterborough Petes 3 @ Erie Otters 6

D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 0-2-2, -1, 2 PIM (holding)
Season totals: 19 GP, 2-13-15, -12, 16 PIM

The Petes lost their third in a row after two-straight wins, falling to Erie, 6-3. Slater Koekkoek had two helpers in the game and continues to approach a point-per-game pace on the season. Koekkoek was scoreless and minus-2 on Thursday night for Team OHL against Team Russia.
