Vasilevski, Andrei

Prospect of the Week: September 25, 2012

Last season we introduced our Prospect of the Week award, an honor (virtually) given to one Tampa Bay Lightning prospect for their recent contributions on the ice.

While Cory Conacher won nearly every AHL award in which he was eligible last year, plus a Calder Cup, we’re fairly certain he’s got a printed copy of his Bolt Prospects Prospect of the Week write-ups stashed in his hockey bag to remind him what can come from dedication and hard work. In the paraphrased words of Ron Burgundy, we don’t know how to put this, but this award is a kind of a big deal.

Now, whether or not the award smells of rich mahogany is up for debate, but we like it regardless.

At any rate, this week’s BP Prospect of the Week award – the first of the season – goes to … Andrei Vasilevski, goaltender, Ufa Jr. (MHL - Russia).

MHL Game Day: 9-22-12/9-23-12

When I miss one of Vasilevski's starts, I get punished by having to back-calculate his GAA and save percentage after the previous game...

Andrei Vasilevski, Ufa Jr., Win, 21/25, 4.00 GAA, .840 sv%

Andrei Vasilevski snapped his season high 1 game losing streak (tongue lodged firmly in cheek) in Ufa Jr.'s 5-4 win over Perm Jr. Vasilevski saw his season opening 7 game winning streak snapped in his previous start.

9-23-12
Perm Jr. 1 vs. Ufa Jr. 3
Andrei Vasilevski, Ufa Jr., Win, 26/27, 1.00 GAA, .963 sv%

MHL (Russia Jr.):
Nizhnekamsk Jr. 1 vs. Ufa Jr. 0
Andrei Vasilevski, Ufa Jr., Loss, 17/18, 1.00 GAA, .944 sv%
Season totals: 8 GP, 7-1-0, 1 SO, 1.38 GAA, .952 sv%

When I said yesterday that teams have no chance if they only get 18 shots on Andrei Vasilevski, I forgot to post the caveat that they might have a chance if they allow only 12 shots and shut the team in front of Vasilevski out. That happened today as he fell for the first time this season 1-0 to Nizhnekamsk Jr. The winning goal was scored with just 7 seconds left in regulation, no less. Amazing stuff, even in defeat. Ufa Jr. draws Perm Jr. next on Saturday.

European Game Day: 9-19-12

Elitserien (Sweden):

If all you manage is 18 shots on goal against Andrei Vasilevski, you probably have no prayer. Nizhnekamsk Jr. learned that lesson the hard way, as they were shutout by Ufa Jr. and the Lightning first rounder 5-0. Vasilevski improves to a lucky 7-0-0 on the season. The two teams rematch on Thursday.

MHL (Russia Jr.):
Ufa Jr. 3 vs. Chelyabinsk Jr. 2
