MHL Game Day: 10-18-12

MHL (Russia Jr.)
Ufa Jr. 2 vs. Omsk Jr. 3 (OT)
Andrei Vasilevski, Ufa Jr., OT Loss, 35/38, 2.91 GAA, .921 sv%
Season totals: 19 GP, 14-5-0, 1 SO, 1.98 GAA, .929 sv%

Andrei Vasilevski and Ufa. Jr. got swept by Omsk Jr. by virtue of Baby Avanagard's 3-2 overtime win. Vasilevski has now started all 19 of Ufa Jr.'s games. Last season, the netminder only saw action in 27 games for Ufa Jr. all year. So, we're not even 2 months into the schedule and Vasilevski's already met 2/3 of his workload from last year. If I were the Bolt Prospects Twitter administrator, I might tweet #ThingsAlexSemakShouldKeepInMind.

Boom goes the stay-at-home dynamite! Nikita Nesterov (pictured) was +3 in a season high 18:35 of ice time in Chelyabinsk's 6-3 win over Novgorod. Ex-Lightning draft pick Ruslan Zainullin had a goal for Torpedo in defeat. Chelyabinsk is off until Sunday when they face Spartak Moscow.

Cherepovets 6 vs. Bratislava 0

Season totals: 16 GP, 7-8-1, 3 SO, 1.92 GAA, .935 sv%

Jaroslav Janus, Bratislava, Loss, 33/39, 6.00 GAA, .846 sv%
Season totals: 16 GP, 9-5-2, 2 SO, 2.37 GAA, .923 sv%

Oof! In a battle between old school and new school Lightning goaltending prospects, Vasily Koshechkin taught the new blood a serious lesson. The big veteran netminder logged an 18 save shutout in Cherepovets' 6-0 spanking of Bratislava. Ex-Lightning draft pick Denis Kazionov continued his quest to get back on Bolt Prospects' daily updates by scoring his 5th and 6th goals of the season, both on the power play, for Severstal. They face Omsk next on Saturday. Slovan will lick their wounds in preparation for CSKA next Tuesday.

Season totals: 18 GP, 14-4-0, 1 SO, 1.92 GAA, .930 sv%

Andrei Vasilevski continued the theme of a poor day for young Lightning goaltending prospects after he was pulled after 2 periods in Ufa Jr.'s 6-2 loss to Omsk Jr. I ask the question again: does the young man need a rest after having started every game of the season thus far for Ufa Jr? I'm looking at you, ex-Lightning forward and current Ufa Jr. coach, Alexander Semak. These two teams rematch on Thursday.

MHL Game Day: 10-12-12

MHL (Russia Jr.)
Khanty-Mansiysk Jr. 4 vs. Ufa Jr. 5
Andrei Vasilevski, Ufa Jr., Shootout Win, 27/31, 3.69 GAA, .871 sv%
Season totals: 18 GP, 15-3-0, 1 SO, 1.92 GAA, .930 sv%

Andrei Vasilevski turned away both shooters he faced in the penalty shot session to help stake Ufa Jr. to a 5-4 win over Khanty-Mansiysk Jr. Vasilevski remains unbeaten after regulation with 3 wins in the shootout. Despite the victory, though, Vasilevski's save percentage continues to erode from its stratospheric heights of the early season. One wonders if the 18 year old netminder, who has started all 18 of Ufa Jr.'s games, may have some fatigue setting in. Ufa Jr. plays Omsk Jr. next on Wednesday.

Nikita Gusev (pictured) had an even strength goal and a power play assist in 16:36 of ice time in Tver's 5-3 win over Kurgan. The multi-point effort puts Gusev at a point a game pace in Russia's second best men's league. Tver draws Karaganda next on Saturday.

MHL (Russia Jr.)
Tyumen Jr. 3 vs. Ufa Jr. 4 (SO)
Andrei Vasilevski, Ufa Jr., Shootout Win, 25/28, 2.77 GAA, .893 sv%
