For much of the night, it looked like the Crunch were going to cap a pretty successful weekend with a win. Considering the team was having to play two defensemen at forward because of the injuries up top in Tampa Bay, maybe getting 3 of the possible 6 points out of the set is as successful as can be expected.

24 hours ago the Crunch were sailing toward a victory against Utica and looked like they were going to have a successful 3 games in 3 nights set over this weekend. The Crunch's veterans pulled the sled tonight with Mike Angelidis keying the comeback by finally getting the monkey off his back with his first goal of the campaign. It's much needed with Marchessault up top in Tampa Bay.

The Crunch entered this game with nothing close to a full compliment of forwards due to the rash of injury recalls to Tampa Bay. Hence, you had defensemen taking shifts at forward. Cats living with dogs. Pure pandemonium. And yet, the Crunch managed to outshoot the IceCaps by a pretty impressive 47-28 margin.

Wilcox, Joel Vermin, and Jeff Tambellini were the game's three stars.

My running theory for this season for the Crunch is that their ceiling ultimately depends on Matthew Peca's development. The Crunch need his speed and creativity to give them some offensive punch off the rush and on counters to augment the more meat and potatoes approach they showed to manufacturing goals most of last season. So, anytime Peca gets a multi point game, that's a good sign.

Wilcox Looks Ahead After First Pro Win

By Jeremy Houghtaling

Adam Wilcox is moving on after his milestone victory.

The Crunch rookie netminder turned aside 25 shots to lift Syracuse to a 2-1 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for his first professional win Saturday, but was back to the regular grind at practice on Monday.

Wilcox is continuing to refine his technique as he progresses at the pro level.

“Obviously, it was a good feeling,” Wilcox said. “I was excited about it and it’s one of the hardest wins to get. It’s just getting over that, and now that the first one is out of the way, hopefully I can keep rolling here.”

SYR-2

Adam Wilcox sparkled, allowing just 1 goal on 26 shots for his first pro victory. The pendulum has swung a little bit, with Gudlevskis looking a little subpar in his first game back from Tampa Bay, and maybe Wilcox move to the top spot next weekend.

Jonathan Marchessault, Wilcox, and Yanni Gourde were the game's three stars.

Coach Zettler may have found a gem with the assembling of the line with Marchessault, Gourde, and Tanner Richard this weekend. The line generated 4 goals in 2 games this weekend, and look like they'll have some longevity if they can stay in Syracuse together. Unfortunately, with Palat injured tonight up top, one of these forwards (Marchessault) may have to be earmarked for a trip to the big club.

Looks like Nikita Nesterov will also be recalled after a 2 game confidence/conditioning stint this weekend with the Crunch.
