In a back-to-back set against Gwinett in Estero Friday and Saturday nights, the Everblades emerged with a perfect 4 points and keeping a lock on the lead in the East Division. On Friday night, the Blades rallied to scored three 3rd period goals with Jeff Costello scoring the equalizer early in the period to spur the comeback. Costello also fought Anthony Perdicaro in the 2nd and Mike Aviani instigated fisticuffs with James McEwan. Allen York turned away 26 shots for the win.

On Saturday night, Allen York got the nod in nets again and pitched a 21-shot 2-0 shutout, earning First Star honors. It was York's 2nd shutout of the season, and his 8th victory. Jeff Costello did not play. Florida next plays a back-to-back in Wheeling next weekend.

A night after being scratched, Lightning camper Mike Aviani pots Florida's 3rd goal of the 1st period in Sunday afternoon's road game victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators. Jeff Costello assisted on Aviani's goal, the night after scoring his first professional goal. Allen York was rather pedestrian in net, allowing 3 goals on 22 shots, but when your offense puts a touchdown up on the scoreboard you don't have to be stellar to get the win. Lightning prospect Artem Sergeev was whistled 55 seconds into the game for his first penalty of the season. Both teams had their power play clicking at 50%, but the high octane Everblade offense overwhelmed the Gladiators amid a 40 shot barrage. Florida captured all six points on the weekend three-in-three road trip, and the Everblades return to Estero 1st on the table in the East Division and 2nd in the conference behind Fort Wayne. Gwinnett makes the 9-hour trip down I-75 from Duluth to Estero for a back-to-back rematch against the Everblades next Friday and Saturday night.

Missouri Mavericks 1 at Wichita Thunder 3

F Danick Gauthier, WIC: 0-2-2, E, 0 PIM, 8 SOG
Season totals (ECHL): 11 GP, 5-6-11, +4, 8 PIM, 32 SOG

Season totals: 11 GP, 0-2-2, -3, 14 PIM, 10 SOG

Wichita earned a much needed victory Sunday afternoon against the visiting Missouri Mavericks, and once again Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier was in the thick of the scoring. Gauthier was credited with the primary assists on both of the Thunder's first and third goals, with that 3rd goal being a crucial power play insurance marker with just 85 seconds left in the game. Gauthier finishes the 4-game week with a gaudy stat line of 2-4-5 with 20 shots and a +3 rating. The Thunder next plays Tuesday night in Tulsa against the Oilers.

Jeff Costello notched his first pro goal Saturday night on the road in Charleston. Knowing the tough and pesky game that Costello plays, you might think it was a greasy lunch pail type of goal, but you would be wrong. Costello flipped a slick backhander 5-hole for Florida's fourth goal of the game. More good news from the Low Country with Lightning defensive prospect Artem Sergeev returning to the lineup after missing a couple of games with an injury. Florida next plays Sunday afternoon in Duluth against the Gladiators.

Allen Americans 3 at Wichita Thunder 2

F Danick Gauthier, WIC: 1-1-2, +1, 0 PIM, 4 SOG
Season totals (ECHL): 10 GP, 5-4-9, +4, 8 PIM, 24 SOG

Season totals: 10 GP, 0-2-2, -3, 14 PIM, 9 SOG

Wichita mounted a spirited comeback in the final two minutes of the game behind a goal and primary assist Lightning prospect Danick Gauthier. Unfortunately, the Thunder could not manufacture the equalizer having gone down 3-0 during the first two periods. A bit difficult to justify losing 3-2 with the opposition only putting 17 shots on goal. Thunder goalie Tyler Bunz needs to be better there. For those keeping score at home, Gauthier is 4-3-7 with 20 shots in 7gp since joining the Thunder. Wichita hosts the Missouri Mavericks Sunday afternoon.

Allen York managed to stay sharp amid light duty against the Stingrays Friday night in Charleston, facing just 17 shots as the Everblades cruised to a 4-1 victory. Returning to the ice for Florida was Jeff Costello, recently reassigned from Syracuse in exchange for Everblade forward Kevin Lynch (who scored for the Crunch). Costello was a thorn all night under the Stingrays skin, logging two boarding minors, a high sticking minor, and a fighting major with South Carolina blueliner Wade Epp. Costello and Epp are no strangers as the Notre Dame and Northern Michigan alums played against one another numerous times during their recent four year college careers. Lightning prospect Artem Sergeev remained sidelined with an injury. The Everblades travel to Duluth, GA to take on back-to-back games against the Gladiators to finish up the weekend road trip.

The Everblades jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd period, but gave up the next three goals including the OT breakaway game winner to Gladiator forward Brenden Walker. Walker, 22, was the Gladiators' leading goal scorer last season in his first pro season after a prolific WHL scoring career with the Wheat Kings and the Blades. Lightning camper Mike Aviani assisted on Florida's second goal, but it wasn't enough to preserve Florida's five-game winning streak. Fellow camper Allen York sat backup to Carolina Hurricane prospect Daniel Altshuller, and Bolt prospect Artem Sergeev missed his second straight game due to a suspected injury. The Everblades return to Charleston and Duluth again next weekend for a three-in-three road tilt against the South Carolina Stingrays and Gwinnett Gladiators.
