ECHL Game Night: 10-10-14 (preseason)

Orlando Solar Bears 3 @ Florida Everblades 2

C Mike Aviani (TB Preseason Tryout), FLA: 0-0-0, E, 4 PIM, 1 SOG

W Danick Gauthier, FLA: 1-0-1, +1, 0 PIM, 1 SOG

G Allen York (AHL Contract), FLA: Did not play (injured)

Florida dropped their preseason opener, 3-2, to the rival Solar Bears. Syracuse assigned forward Danick Gauthier to the Everblades earlier in the week and he registered one of the two Florida goals. Mike Aviani, who was an impressive tryout player with the Lightning in the offseason and later signed to an ECHL contract, was scoreless in the match. Artem Sergeev, wearing No. 77, was scoreless in his first ECHL game. He spent all of his rookie pro season last year in Syracuse. Dan Milan, who played one game with Syracuse last year, three with Florida, and 50 with CHL Brampton (who is now in the ECHL), was also scoreless. Allen York, who is on an AHL contract with Syracuse, was not dressed for the Everblades. Ryan Toohey reported York tweaked his groin in practice a week ago.

Who's Trending? (Part 1)

The NHL Entry Draft and Free Agency Frenzy are tiny blips in the rearview mirror and the next event – the Nashville prospects tournament – is still a few weeks away (and we’ll be there). August is the low-point of the hockey year and the Bolt Prospects staff has been using this lull to re-charge their batteries in preparation for another long season of daily reports and constant updates and commentary.

Editor’s Note: Batteries is a figurative term. We’re not robots, though we feel like it sometimes.

The prospects themselves are hard at work preparing for the season and/or dumping ice buckets over their respective heads for a good cause. Some, like Jonathan Drouin, have aspirations to make the big club. Others, like Daniel Milan, are hoping to stay in the organization beyond this season.

It’s time to take a look at who’s trending in what direction as camp approaches. The great part about hockey, and especially developmental hockey – is this is subject to change. There are few things more exciting than watching someone turn their career around. This is the Afanasenkov Rule. You never know.

The following 4-part series includes current prospects and players that started last season as prospects who remain in the Tampa Bay Lightning organization.

ECHL Game Night: 3-7-14

Gwinnett Gladiators 3 @ Florida Everblades 2

W Danick Gauthier, FLA: 1-0-1, E, 0 PIM, 3 SOG
Season totals: 29 GP, 5-11-16, +2, 51 PIM

D Jordan Henry (AHL Contract), FLA: Did not play (injured)
Season totals: 26 GP, 8-13-21, +9, 33 PIM

W Carl Nielsen (AHL Contract), FLA: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, 0 SOG
Season totals: 38 GP, 4-5-9, -11, 49 PIM

Florida dropped two of three games at division cellar-dwelling Gwinnett last weekend, then dropped a home game to the Gladiators on Friday night. That’s not good when you’re falling out of playoff position. The ‘Blades are clinging to the eighth spot in the East.

ECHL Game Night: 3-1-14

Florida Everblades 4 @ Gwinnett Gladiators 5

W Danick Gauthier, FLA: 0-2-2, +2, 0 PIM, 2 SOG
Season totals: 26 GP, 4-11-15, +3, 49 PIM

D Jordan Henry (AHL Contract), FLA: Did not play
Season totals: 26 GP, 8-13-21, +9, 33 PIM

W Carl Nielsen (AHL Contract), FLA: Did not play
Season totals: 35 GP, 3-5-8, -11, 49 PIM

Florida allowed two power play goals in the final minute of the second period and that ended up being their undoing. They were up, 3-2, before the two goals against. The second of those goals sparked a semi-line brawl. Still no sign of Carl Neilsen or Jordan Henry, both on AHL contracts with Syracuse. The Everblades have dropped to 10th in the conference. Gauthier missed Friday's game against Gwinnett. The Gladiators have won the first two of three games against the 'Blades this weekend. These are bad losses for Florida as the Gladiators are significantly in last place in the division.
