The Everblades received a bit of good news in that netminder Kristers Gudlevskis was reassigned from Syracuse and will rejoin the club. For now, recalled defenseman Charles Landry and forward Danick Gauthier remain with AHL Syracuse. Florida suffered its first regulation loss of the season, falling to Elmira in nearly hard-to-fathom fashion after finishing the match with a 41-18 shot advantage, done in by a stretch lasting from the late-first through late-second periods that saw Elmira take a 6-3 lead. The Everblades clawed back to make a game of it in the final frame but ultimately squandered an impressive special teams performance in which the team capitalized on one of its three power play opportunities while also registering three shorthanded tallies. Carl Nielsen, who was the only member of the Lightning or Crunch organizations to appear in the contest with Danick Gauthier, Kristers Gudlevskis and Charles Landry on recall to Syracuse and both Dan Milan and Maxime Langelier-Parent scratched, scored his first goal of the season. After splitting against Elmira, Florida (8-0-1, 17 PTS) closes out its weekend Saturday night against Toledo (3-3-1, 7 PTS).

Landry Provides Crunch with Depth on Defense

By Jeremy Houghtaling

Charles Landry provides the Syracuse Crunch with something coach Rob Zettler believes is critical.

The defenseman, who has spent most of the last two seasons in the ECHL, gives the Crunch a dependable option in case of injury. Zettler knows what he can expect, even though Landry has played less than a dozen games in a Syracuse sweater.

"Whenever he's been in there and given the chance to play, he's played well," Zettler said. "He does nothing but be a professional out there."

Florida erased and overcame a one-goal deficit to split this weekend's series with divisional rival Orlando. The Everblades enjoyed a substantial 39-24 shot advantage, aided by eight power play opportunities, although all were fruitless while the game-winner would come during one of the six times the visitors were shorthanded. The lone goal Everblades netminder Jesse Deckert surrendered came with the Solar Bears down a man. Charles Landry joined Danick Gauthier and Kristers Gudlevskis in AHL Syracuse prior to the match, leaving Dan Milan as the only farmhand present with an NHL contract to appear in the match. Carl Nielsen, who has an AHL contract the Lightning's affiliate, was ejected from the game as a result of a kneeing infraction. Florida (7-0-1, 15 PTS) now returns home for some rest and recuperation before taking on visiting Elmira (2-3-0, 6 PTS) on Wednesday.
