Last place Florida (2-5-0-1) lost their third straight game, this time coughing up a 2-1 third period lead in Gwinnett. Alex Hutchings (pictured) had given the ‘Blades a 2-1 lead in the final minute of the second period with his fourth goal of the season, but by the 12-minute mark of the third period Gwinnett had claimed the lead for good. Pat Nagle was back in the Florida nets and despite the loss raised his save percentage back over .850 for the year. Baby steps. Florida went into Greenville this weekend and dropped both games to the last place Road Warriors. Alex Hutchings (pictured) and Norfolk property Philip-Michael Devos combined for a goal to give the ‘Blades an early 2-0 lead. They’d later relinquish a 3-2 lead on their way to defeat. Florida (2-4-0-1) plays next at Gwinnett on Tuesday. The South Division cellar-dwelling Everblades are in the middle of a season-long nine-game road trip. So far they’re 1-4 on the trip, including a loss to Trenton, who has one win on the year.

For the second time in the last three games, Nagle gave up seven goals in an Everblades loss. His two other games this season he gave up two goals in each match. Alex Hutchings had a goal and a helper for Florida (2-3-0-1), who plays the Road Warriors again Saturday night. Greenville remains in last place in Florida’s division despite the win.

Nagle didn’t get a lot of time to stew over his seven-goals-against game Saturday night in Trenton as he was thrown back in the net Sunday in Reading. The first year pro responded with a Third Star effort, stopping 24 of 26 shots to get the win. Norfolk Admirals property Philip-Michael Devos (pictured) scored his second of the year for the ‘Blades (2-1-0-1) in the victory. Carolina Hurricanes draft pick Justin Shugg leads Florida in scoring after five games with three goals and eight points. Florida outshot Reading 22-5 in the first period, skating to an early 3-0 lead.

Not a good night for Nagle, who let in seven goals as the Everblades (1-2-0-1) dropped their second road game of the season, 8-5. Florida had a 5-2 lead with under three minutes to play in the second period before giving up two quick goals on the power play before the start of the third period. By midway through the third they had given up two more power play goals. Down by two in the waning minutes, they gave up an empty netter. On the plus side, Alex Hutchings (pictured) scored his second goal of the season for Florida. Philip-Michael Devos (Norfolk Admirals property) was back in the lineup for Florida and had a goal. He has two points in three games this season. The ‘Blades and their penalty kill problems will play in Reading on Sunday. Nagle, whose save percentage dropped around .800 points Saturday, may be back in the net again as Carolina goaltending prospect John Muse was called up to AHL Charlotte.
