After winning just once in in its previous nine matches, Brynas took an initial lead which it built on and expanded a second time after MODO made it 2-1 to secure a much-needed regulation win with the season winding down and AIK nipping at their heels for the league's last playoff spot. After scoring last match, Harju had a mostly clean stat line. Former Lightning netminder Johan Holmqvist, who got the nod yet again, stopped 24 of 25 shots on goal in the match. On Saturday, Brynas (16-19-6-12, 72 PTS) travels to take on AIK (15-24-7-7, 66 PTS), which has three straight victories over the pending visitors.

Ex-Preds draft pick Cal O'Reilly had a pair of goals and former Ranger Mats Zuccarello had the game winning goal to cap Magnitogorsk's 3-2 come-from-behind win in Game Four over Ufa. Ufa had Magnitogorsk on the ropes with a 2-0 lead entering the Third Period, but could not close the deal. Ex-Lightning draft pick Alexei Glukhov was on the ice for each of Magnitogorsk's final two goals and finished -2 in the contest.

Facing a top club 30 points ahead in the league standings, Brynas was efficient, netting three goals despite limited opportunities to force overtime but former NHLer Jason Krog spoiled a potential upset with a goal during the extra session that gave HV 71 the extra point. Gustaf Wesslau, who got the start in net for HV 71, only saw 17 shots in the contest. Former Lightning netminder Johan Holmqvist, who was peppered all night, stopped 37 of 41 shots in defeat. Johan Harju potted his first goal since January 24th, a span of eight games. Brynas (15-19-6-12, 69 PTS) now returns home to face MODO (19-18-7-8, 79 PTS) Thursday.
