Windsor Spitfires 6 @ Belleville Bulls 5 (OT)

W Cristiano DiGiacinto, WSR: 0-1-1, E, 2 PIM
Season totals: 33 GP, 13-11-24, -10, 59 PIM
2013-14 totals: 50 GP, 17-11-28, +8, 101 PIM

Windsor won again on the road, defeating the Bulls in overtime. Former Lightning camper Brett Welychka was first star for notching a goal and three assists for Belleville. The undersized, gritty forward has 21 points in 27 games with Belleville after being traded from London earlier this year.

TRADE: Lightning prospect Anthony DeAngelo was traded by Sarnia to Sault Ste Marie on Wednesday. The Soo is ranked No. 6 in the entire Canadian Hockey League, and third in the OHL. DeAngelo will be a part of what should be a long championship run for the Greyhounds. Their main competition will be the top-ranked Oshawa Generals, and Connor McDavid’s Erie Otters.

Western Hockey League

Moose Jaw Warriors 1 @ Prince Albert Raiders 5

C Brayden Point, MJ: 0-1-1, -3, 0 PIM, 6 SOG
Season totals: 30 GP, 17-28-45, +8, 21 PIM
2013-14 totals: 72 GP, 36-55-91, -27, 53 PIM

Point (Moose Jaw Times photo) returned to the Moose Jaw lineup after winning gold with Canada, but couldn’t spark the Warriors to victory. He did extend his point streak to 13 games, the longest active streak in the WHL.

Calgary Hitmen 4 @ Prince Albert Raiders 5 (SO)

D Ben Thomas, CAL: Did not play
Season totals: 29 GP, 4-12-16, -3, 16 PIM
2013-14 totals: 72 GP, 7-24-31, +11, 39 PIM

There hasn’t been any word so far about an injury to Thomas. Calgary had a 3-1 lead entering the third period, and a 4-3 lead in the last minute and let the game get to overtime. Jake DeBrusk had two goals for Swift Current. His dad is Louie DeBrusk, who played one season for the Lightning in the late 90’s. Jake is a 2015 draft eligible prospect who is expected to go late in the first or early in the second round.

Prospect of the Week: 1-7-14

After a nice holiday break, we continue our Bolt Prospect of the Week award, an honor (virtually) given to one Tampa Bay Lightning prospect for his recent contributions on and off the ice.

The Bolt Prospect of the Week for January 7, 2014 is … Cameron Darcy, Center, Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL – Canada).

There are turnarounds, then there's what Lightning prospect Cam Darcy is doing.

Darcy’s story is well known – he was intent on getting a pro contract last fall, but the Lightning sent him back to juniors for an overage year so he could get stronger. The South Boston native didn’t produce anywhere close to the level that made him a second team all-star with Cape Breton last year and eventually the Eagles had to move on. Darcy was traded to Sherbrooke, where he suddenly found his game again.

Calgary outshot Moose Jaw 36-16 on their way to an easy 6-1 win. The Warriors only mustered two shots in the final period compared to 16 for Calgary, who had a 5-1 lead entering the last 20 minutes. Ben Thomas was scoreless for the Hitmen. Brayden Point, fresh off his gold medal for Team Canada at the WJCs, arrived at the arena just before game time, so he was a scratch.
