Bolts Send Three Top Prospects Back to Juniors

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning reduced their preseason roster by three today, Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced. The Lightning now have 49 players remaining on their exhibition roster as the team prepares for the final contest on its four-game road trip tomorrow night in Calgary.

The three players who have been reassigned to their junior clubs are as follows:

RW Carter Ashton -- Regina (WHL)
RW Brett Connolly -- Prince George (WHL)
RW Richard Panik -- Belleville (OHL)

North American Juniors Game Day: 9/23/10

BCHL

Salmon Arm Silverbacks 6 @ Penticton Vees 5
C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 1-0-1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 6 GP, 2-1-3, 2 PIM

O’Donnell scored his second goal of the year as part of a 3-goal third period for the Vees. They cut the lead to 6-5, but couldn’t complete the comeback from down 6-2.

USHL

Fargo Force 2 vs. Muskegon Lumberjacks 4 (Exhibition)
C Jimmy Mullin, FGO: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM, 3 SOG

Fargo got down 2-0 early and 3-0 early in the third before scratching their way back to a 3-2 deficit late. They couldn’t make it all the way back and the Lumberjacks added an empty netter. Mullin had a goal and an assist in the Fall Classic opener Wednesday.

OHL

Oshawa Generals 5 @ Peterborough Petes 4
G Michael Zador, OSH: Win, 37 saves on 41 shots

Zador (pictured) will again battle Kevin Bailie for playing time this season, but the 2009 fifth round pick of the Lightning got the season opening start for Oshawa. He was 14-28-2-1 with a 4.15 GAA and .884 save percentage for the Gens last year.

North American Juniors Game Day: 9/22/10

USHL

Fargo Force 3 vs. Chicago Steel 0 (Exhibition)
C Jimmy Mullin, FGO: 1-1-2, +2, 0 PIM, 3 SOG

Mullin scored what turned out to be the game winning goal in his first game with Fargo as the Force defeated the Steel 3-0 the USHL Fall Classic. Mullin had 72 points in 55 games last year while leading Shattuck St-Mary’s in scoring. (Fargo Force photo)

BCHL

Prince George Spruce Kings 2 @ Penticton Vees 3 (OT)
C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 0-0-0, 2 PIM (Tripping)
Season Totals: 5 GP, 1-1-2, 2 PIM

O’Donnell is off to a bit of a slow start despite registering points in his first two games. “Slow” is relative, however, as he’s still tied for third in team scoring. He was a point-per-game (plus) player last year in the MJHL. Penticton is 3-2-0-0 on the year, two points behind Salmon Arm for first in the Interior Conference.

Handful of Prospects to See Action vs. Dallas

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced its lineup for Tuesday night's exhibition game vs. Dallas, and a handful of prospects will be getting a chance to make a valuable impression on Coach Guy Boucher and General Manager Steve Yzerman.

Prospects for the 9/21 game include:

Richard Panik, W (pictured)
Johan Harju, C/W
Dana Tyrell, W
Scott Jackson, D

Panik was recently highlighted by Boucher as impressing during scrimmages and early camp drills.

Graduated (barely) prospect James Wright and overage prospects C/W Niklas Persson, D Mathieu Roy, D Michael Vernace, and G Cedrick Desjardins will also play.

Mike Smith is slated to play in net for Tampa Bay, however the Tampa Tribune's Erik Erlendsson reported on Twitter that Smith left the ice this morning with an apparent arm or finger injury.
