North American Juniors Game Night: 10/12/10

BCHL

Penticton Vees 2 @ Westside Warriors 1 (OT)
C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 0-0-0, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 12 GP, 5-3-8, 6 PIM

O’Donnell was scoreless coming off a 2-goal game, but he and the Vees will take the road victory.

WHL

Kootenay Ice 2 @ Regina Pats 0
RW Carter Ashton, REG: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 7 GP, 2-1-3, -3, 21 PIM

Regina is a league-worst 1-6-1-0 so far this year, and for a team with Jordan Weal and Ashton, that shouldn’t be happening. They managed only 14 shots on goal – at home – on Tuesday. Then again, this was a team that had Jordan Eberle last year and greatly faltered. After scoring 30 two years ago, Ashton fell to 24 goals last year, and with only 2 after 7 games, he can’t be happy with his (or the team’s) production so far, especially considering he had such a good Lightning camp and exhibition season.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/11/10

OHL

Ottawa 67’s 4 @ Oshawa Generals 3
G Michael Zador, OSH: Loss, 22 saves on 26
Season Totals: 4-1-0-0, 3.61 GAA, .894 sv%

Zador got a confidence boost when Coach/GM Chris DePiero put him right back in net after Zador was pulled in his previous game. Zador wasn’t great, however, and suffered his first (technically) loss of the year against the 67’s despite the Gens outshooting Ottawa 36-26. This is a crucial time for Zador, who struggled mightily with consistency last season. If he can right this quickly, it could go a long way to him getting a contract this spring. If he continues to ride the roller coaster, the uphill climb to a contract gets steeper.

WHL

Prince George Cougars 7 @ Edmonton Oil Kings 8
RW Brett Connolly, PG: 2-0-2, +1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 8 GP, 6-5-11, -1, 2 PIM

Connolly, who has at least a point in all 8 games this year, scored the game’s first 2 goals, but the Cougars would later blow a 6-3 third period lead in 6 minutes and eventually have to tie the game to send it to overtime. The Oil Kings won it in the extra session.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/10/10

USHL

Fargo Force 3 @ Sioux City Musketeers 1
C Jimmy Mullin, FGO: 1-0-1, E, 4 PIM (hooking, cross-checking), 1 SOG
Season Totals: 4 GP, 3-1-4, +1, 6 PIM

Mullin, who has goals in three straight games, opened the game’s scoring while on the power play.

QMJHL

Baie-Comeau Drakkar 3 @ Gatineau Olympiques 4
D Adam Janosik, GAT: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM, 0 SOG
Season Totals: 10 GP, 1-3-4, +2, 2 PIM

Gatineau outshot the Titan 31-14 but were unable to consistently solve Oilers draft pick Olivier Roy in net for A-B.

Montreal Juniors 2 @ St. John Sea Dogs 5
D Charles Landry, MTL: Did not play.
Season Totals: 4 GP, 0-1-1, +4, 0 PIM

Landry has missed Montreal’s last four games, but word is he's set to return from injury shortly. The Juniors are quickly falling behind Drummondville in the race for the Telus West Division lead. The Volts are five points ahead of Montreal.

OHL

Guelph Storm 2 @ Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds 1
D Brock Beukeboom, SSM: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 6 GP, 0-0-0, -1, 16 PIM

After starting the season 3-0, the Soo has lost their last five and are in the OHL Western Division cellar with six points.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/9/10

USHL

Fargo Force 2 @ Cedar Rapids Roughriders 5
C Jimmy Mullin, FGO: 1-1-2, +1, 2 PIM (roughing), 4 SOG
Season Totals: 3 GP, 2-1-3, +1, 2 PIM

Mullin (pictured) had his first multipoint USHL game, though it came in a losing effort. The Miami-Ohio commit leads Fargo in goals and is tied for the points lead after three games.

QMJHL

Montreal Juniors 2 @ Moncton Wildcats 3 (SO)
D Charles Landry, MTL: Did not play.
Season Totals: 4 GP, 0-1-1, +4, 0 PIM

Landry has missed Montreal’s last three games.

OHL

Belleville Bulls 4 @ Sarnia Sting 3
C Richard Panik, BEL: 1-2-3, +2, 0 PIM, *First Star*
Season Totals: 7 GP, 5-5-10, +2, 11 PIM

Panik earned his second First Star of the season after a three point night. This is exactly what the Lightning want to see from Panik at the junior level – lighting up the scoreboard. Panik has all the skills to be an elite forward at this level.

Brampton Battalion 3 @ Owen Sound Attack 4
D Geoffrey Schemitsch, OS: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 6 GP, 1-4-5, +3, 0 PIM

Owen Sound was outshot 13-4 in the third period, but one of those shots - Cameron Brace's first OHL goal - went in for the game winner.

WHL

Prince George Cougars 5 @ Medicine Hat Tigers 3
RW Brett Connolly, PG: 1-0-1, +1, 0 PIM, *Third Star*
Season Totals: 7 GP, 4-5-9, -2, 2 PIM

Connolly has at least a point in all seven games this season. He scored the game’s opening goal Saturday.

North American Juniors Game Night: 10/8/10

O'Donnell has a big night ... Connolly, Ashton score ... Schemitsch a PPGer ... Zador struggles.

BCHL

Trail Smoke Eaters 4 @ Penticton Vees 6
C Brendan O’Donnell, PEN: 2-0-2, 0 PIM, *First Star*
Season Totals: 12 GP, 5-3-8, 6 PIM

O’Donnell (pictured) scored his second goal of the game early in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and send the Vees to victory. This was his first 2-goal game in the BCHL.
