I grew up playing hockey in SW Ontario ... until my family decided to move to Bradenton, Florida. My last game in Ridgetown I scored 7 goals and 1 assist in a 14-1 Ridgetown win over Glencoe. I got 2nd Star in the game because my LWer had 1 goal and 7 assists. Apparently the minor hockey association was in the mood to reward the set-up guys as my LWer got the No.1 star. That was probably my best hockey moment.
Unfortunately, Bradenton and Florida at the time didn't have any rinks, so I got into soccer and football. A few years later the Lightning came to town, so I dropped my childhood favorite, the Nordiques (always a fan of the Stastnys, Goulet, etc), for the Lightning.
I got into following prospects after the 1998 draft when I started listening to Rimouski games over the internet, swearing up and down that Brad Richards would be a high-impact NHLer despite his lack of speed and size. I remember CBC television scolded me for requesting a tape of the Barrie-Rimouski Memorial Cup Final. "We don't do that."
