2012 IIHF World Championships: Quarterfinals
Canada 3 @ Slovakia 4
Stunning. Michal Handzus' power play goal with 2:28 left in regulation lifted Slovakia to a 4-3 upset over Canada in the World Championships Semifinals. Teddy Purcell played a paltry 3:42 for the Canadians in defeat. Tournament over for the Canadians.
USA 2 @ Finland 3
Jesse Joensuu's 2nd goal of the game with 9 seconds left in regulation lifted Finland to a 3-2 win over team USA. J.T. Brown did not play in the match for the Americans. Nate Thompson was an ugly -3 with 1 shot in 11:26. Tournament over for the Americans.
Sweden 3 @ Czech Republic 4
Milan Michalek's goal with 29 seconds left in regulation (noticing a theme?) lifted Czech Republic to a 4-3 win over Sweden. Victor Hedman had a delay of game minor and 1 shot on goal in 13:46. Tournament over for the Swedes.
Tournament over for Lightning properties. Russia plays Finland and the Czech Republic gets Slovakia in the Semifinal Round.
