Admirals Sign Another Komet

The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel is reporting that the Norfolk Admirals have inked another Komet to a two-way AHL/IHL contract. Minor league veteran defensman Jason Beckett will report to the Admirals training camp and will subject be to reassignment to Fort Wayne if he doesn't make the Norfolk squad out of camp. The 6.03, 213 lbs. blueliner played in Austria last season after racking up nearly 240 games in AHL campaigns with Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Houston, Syracuse, and Grand Rapids. Beckett was a 1998 2nd round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Admirals GM Mike Butters, a former Fort Wayne Komet player, recently signed Komet centerman Mathieu Curadeau to a two-way AHL/IHL deal. Curadeau was named to the IHL All-Rookie team for 2007-08 season. Butters has also extended a free agent invitation to the Admirals training camp to Komet defensiveman Brent Henley. Henley, a massive 6.07, 250 lbs. bruiser, has spent the past 10 season as a minor league journeyman. The Tampa Bay Lightning have also extended a free agent tryout at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament to Komet leading scorer Luciano Aquino, who was the 2007-08 IHL Rookie-of-the-Year.
