Orlando managed a point against division-leading Florida, an impressive feat considering they were down 4-1 in the second period to last year’s champs. The Bears had the game tied at 4 by the end of the period thanks to an Otto Somppi between-the-legs tip-in goal and a 5-on-3 marker. Somppi, who scored a lacrosse-style goal recently, may be the Meadowlark Lemon of the ECHL.

Connor Ingram, who was coming off two solid games in Newfoundland, was pulled in the second period after giving up four goals on 20 shots. It will be telling how he responds to this game considering the roller coaster ride he’s had recently (demotion, 5-1 loss in first ECHL start, etc.).

Mitch Hults received a 10-minute misconduct for leaving the penalty box. Yeah, probably not a good idea. Somewhere Gordie Dwyer is smiling.

Troy Bourke scored again for Orlando, though the shocking part is the league’s point-per-game leader only had one point. He did score in the shootout, however.

The Solar Bears (33-21-4-1) will take the point and move three points ahead of Jacksonville for second in the South Division with three games still in hand. Orlando will face Idaho for three games: Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday. The Steelheads were just leapfrogged by Tulsa for first in the Mountain Division.
