Lethbridge Sends Ashton to Pats

(Regina Pats release) Regina Pats General Manager is proud to announce the acquisition of forwards Carter Ashton, Craig Orfino and a 3rd round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft from the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In exchange, the Pats send 17 year old forward Graham Hood, 15 year old prospect Taylor Balog, a 2nd round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, as well as their 1st round pick in 2011.

Eighteen year old Carter Ashton is native of Saskatoon and was a 1st round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. This season he has 13 goals and 13 assists in 28 games with the Hurricanes.

Nineteen year old Craig Orfino is a native of Edmonton and is in his 3rd WHL season. In 30 games this season with the Hurricanes, he has 6 goals, 6 assists and tallied 27 minutes in penalties.

“We are very excited to add two players of this quality to our line-up. We have paid a hefty price but we are confident that this addition will make our team even more competitive as we move into the second half of the year.” Regina Pats General Manager, Brent Parker continues “We wish Graham and Taylor the best of luck. They are tremendous young men and will have a bright future in Lethbridge.”

Ashton and Orfino will be in the Pats line-up on Friday night in Medicine Hat.

BP Notes: This is a fantastic opportunity for Ashton. The young power forward is moving from a last-place club to the 16-14-3-0 Pats, who sit in fourth in the East Division, but are in the middle of the playoff fight. Ashton will join NHL first rounders and Team Canada (WJCs) veterans Jordan Eberle (Oilers) and Colten Teubert (Kings) on the Pats.
