N.A. Juniors Game Night: 10/22

Tyrell scores again ... Jung dresses for Edmonton ... Another point for Barberio.

Victoria Grizzlies 2 @ Salmon Arm Silverbacks 5
W Justin Courtnall, VIC: 0-1-1, 2 PIM (hooking)
Season totals: 16 GP, 6-10-16, 28 PIM

Courtnall and Victoria got Evan Pighin back after his suspension was dropped. Hockey Canada is now taking measures to ensure there’s a set protocol for players leaving the WHL for provincial junior leagues. Pighin had a goal for Victoria.

Chicoutimi Sagueneens 2 @ Moncton Wildcats 4
D Mark Barberio, MON: 0-1-1, E, 2 PIM, 2 SOG
Season totals: 12 GP, 4-8-12, +7, 8 PIM

Moncton took the second of the home-and-home games with Chicoutimi for the mini-series sweep. Barberio scored the game winner in the previous matchup in overtime. Moncton is ranked 3rd in the latest CHL Top-10.

Prince George Cougars 3 @ Medicine Hat Tigers 7
C/W Dana Tyrell, PG: 1-0-1, -1, 2 PIM (high sticking), *Third Star*
Season totals: 12 GP, 10-4-14, -10, 14 PIM

Tyrell scored his tenth of the season, which is tied for second in the league. He has six goals in his last four games. Unfortunately, Tyrell’s minus-10 rating is seventh from the bottom of the nearly 561 WHL players. Tyler Ennis (first round, Buffalo) had four points for Medicine Hat.

Vancouver Giants 6 @ Edmonton Oil Kings 0
C James Wright, VAN: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM
Season totals: 11 GP, 6-7-13, +9, 6 PIM
G Torrie Jung, EDM: Did Not Play.

Jung was able to make the five hour drive from Lethbridge to Edmonton in time to serve as the Oil Kings’ backup. He is wearing number 1 for Edmonton. Whether or not that’s his depth chart ranking has yet to be seen. Meanwhile, Wright was without a point for Vancouver for the third time in the last five games. Vancouver, who is ranked seventh in the latest CHL Top-10 rankings, outshot Edmonton 33-10.
