N.A. Juniors Game Night 10/28: Jung Gets a Goosegg

Kootenay Ice 0 @ Edmonton Oil Kings 4
G Torrie Jung, EDM: Win, 29 saves, Shutout, *First Star*
Season totals: 3 GP, 2-0-0-1, 1.62 GAA, .947 sv%, 1 shutout

Jung made a stellar home debut for Edmonton, stopping 29 shots to shutout the second place (Central Division) Kootenay Ice 4-0. It was the Ice’s first regulation loss in nine games. Making his third straight start for the second-year Oil Kings, Jung made 25 saves over the final two periods to lift Edmonton (7-9-1-1) out of the Central cellar. The shutout was Jung’s second of his career and the first from an Edmonton netminder this season.

“Obviously it’s nice anytime you get a shut out , it’s a pretty good feeling.” Jung was quoted as saying on the Oil Kings’ web site. “It’s early on in the season and I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of good battle games coming up so it’s nice to enjoy it for tonight but it’s right back to business for the road trip.”

“He’s played 3 real good games in a row.” said Oil Kings Head Coach Steven Pleau when talking about his 19 year old netminder. “He’s got experience in this league and he’s stabilized our team right now. A few years ago when I was in Spokane, and he was in Kelowna, he played 19 games in a row, I think he was CHL Goalie Of The Month, so he’s played. We’ll see over the long haul where he settles in with us but it’s nice to have his experience right now."
