Quinnipiac started their season off on the right note by going into Maine and defeating the Black Bears, 2-1, in a non-conference match-up. Peca was held off the scoresheet, but is expected to be a big contributor to the Bobcats success this year. Maine outshot QU, 32-18. Bobcats goalie Eric Hartzell (undrafted), a senior, made 31 saves in the win. Quinnipiac plays an exhibition game on Sunday against Acadia. Quinnipiac received the 23rd most votes in the latest USCHO poll.

Manitoba 3 @ No. 4 North Dakota Fighting Sioux 5 (exhibition)

F Brendan O’Donnell, UND: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, 0 SOG

O’Donnell made his return to the Sioux lineup after missing most of last season with a shoulder injury. He didn’t figure into the scoring in UND’s first exhibition game of the year. They will play another exhibition game next Friday against the USA Under-18 squad. Now a sophomore, O’Donnell had five goals and an assist in 17 games last year before getting hurt.

Lethbridge Pronghorns 0 @ No. 2 Minnesota Golden Gophers 7 (exhibition)

G Adam Wilcox, MIN: 7 saves on 7 shots, shared shutout

Freshman Adam Wilcox (pictured) played the second half of Minnesota’s exhibition win over the University of Lethbridge, stopping all seven shots he faced. Wilcox starred for Tri-City in the USHL last year after a trade from Green Bay. Sophomore Michael Shibrowski started the game for the Gophers and made nine saves in 29:30. Christian Isackson (Sabres) had three goals for Minnesota.

Western Ontario Mustangs 2 @ No. 10 Western Michigan Broncos 2 (exhibition)

D Luke Witkowski, WMU: 0-0-0, E, 6 PIM (interference, elbowing, unsportsmanlike conduct), 2 SOG

Broncos co-captain Luke Witkowski went scoreless, but spent six minutes in the penalty box as WMU tied Western Ontario in exhibition play on Saturday. WMU outshot the Mustangs 46-20. Former Lightning fifth round pick (2008) Kyle De Coste now plays for UWO. He had one shot and two penalty minutes in the game. De Coste was never signed by the Lightning. The best junior season he had was a 19-goal effort in 2010-2011 for Sault Ste Marie and Belleville.
