NHL Game Night: 12/22/10 Lightning at Islanders

Flat Lightning play down to competition.

NYI-2 (OT)

Dan Ellis allowed 2 goals on 28 shots for the overtime loss. He deserved better. He made more than enough saves for a team with this much firepower to win against a bottomfeeder like the Islanders. Shame on the skaters, tonight.

First Period
11:28 TB Malone (10), Clark (8), Purcell (18)(PP)

Second Period
19:43 NYI Parenteau (6), Tavares (9), MacDonald (3)

Third Period

03:23 NYI Tavares (9), Wisniewski (16), MacDonald (4)

Ellis was the game's third star.

I guess the Lightning didn't want to be tied for the division lead with 2 games in hand on the Capitals and Thrashers. I guess they didn't want all that "success" baggage following them around. So they came out flat for the first ten minutes of the game, potted a power play goal to take the lead, put in another ten minutes of effort to try to get it to 2-0, and then took their foot off the gas the rest of the way. Look, I get that it's hard to get motivated when you're playing a bunch of glorified AHLers inside a building which is quieter than a tomb because no one is there, but for the love of God, that's a game you have to win if you want to get where you want to go as a team.

And, I would not mind Dwayne Roloson on my team.

Dana Tyrell had 1 shot, 2 hits, and 1 blocked shot in 16:26.
