Vasily Koshechkin turned aside 2 of 3 shooters in the penalty shot session to help deliver Russia a 4-3 shootout win over Finland in the first game of the Oddset Hockey Games. Ex-Lightning defenseman Janne Niskala had a helper in defeat for the Finns. Ex-Lightning draft pick Dmitri Kazionov, the elder brother, had 1 shot on goal and was over 60% on draws in a 4th line role for the Russians. They play Sweden next on Saturday.
