Richard's gets his new deal...

So I saw that the bolts locked up Brad Richards long term this morning. It's a good deal for him obviously, I mean who wouldn't like to make 7.8 million a year. We get him here 5 more years which is a plus because he is our top player and one of the best playmakers in the game. The problem is now with his new huge deal how does the team go out now and get a decent goalie and upgrade the defense? This worries me alot and it might be a sign that a strong youth movement is in the works for the team. We'll have some good forwards but the team will be young and inexperienced in many positions, this is trouble. I guess we'll just have to wait and see but I don't know how they're going to get good experienced players with their team salary number in the cap even with it going up. It's safe to say now I think that you can say good-bye to Grahame, Burke, and Kubina...plus a few others I'm sure...maybe Pratt and possibly Sarich. It is going to be an interesting summer that's for sure.

Aftershocks of the signing...

I agree with you. The Bolts will now be forced to part with certain players that they don't really want to part with. My prediction is that this will be the off-season that we lose Modin via trade. I think with the goalie options out in the market will force a trade as opposed to an easy UFA pick-up. I hope I'm not right, but I have a gut feeling on this one. Black Gold Penguin (To answer the lingering question...Grew up in Pittsburgh, Living in Lightnin' Country. Love my Pens and Bolts!)
