The second one, I'm guessing it's the border crossing plaza.

The overpass over the two lane highway internationally represents a thru way with limited on off access and no intersections--stop lights/signs.
JDDub my cousin Vincent will be delighted. ![]()

And yes the second is their symbol for a highway. That particular highway is the King Fahd Causeway - aka the Saudi Bahrain Causeway soon to become aka the Saudi Bahrain Qater Causeway when the bridge to Qatar is started/finished (suppose to be done before the World Cup gets there). The Causeway has created a BOOM in the economy to B-rain due to increase of tourism from Saudi and even Kuwaitis drive down. Bahrain has become the "playground" of Saudi Arabia. Yes. |

Here's a decent one that points out the boom in Bahrain. Those two large towers to the right are the Bahrain World Trade Center - which were not there the last time I was in Bahrain in 2003. Many of the buildings to the left of it were not there either. You'll notice three are going up. The very land I'm standing on was the Persian Gulf - now filled in with sand, dirt, and concrete to form artificial islands. It's CRAZY how much as change in the span of 8 years. This is kind of fun. On google maps you can zoom into the country and Manama which is the northern part of the country, and looking at areas like Juffair (where I live), Hoora, and the Diplomatic Area you'll see they are blue (click on the map tab) because they were infact once all water and now filled in. Now click on the Satellite button and you'll see it filled in.. just amazing. What I don't understand is they have so much open area and desert to the south yet they're building up north spending millions and millions doing it... I've been on a few of those islands and I must say they are pretty neat.
