Wonder if this is another body for Norfolk so we can bring up someone on defense?

This is a good return for Downie. We tend to over value our own guys after we get attached to them.

With Downie as a pending RFA, the decision on whether or not to bring him back was obviously a big factor in this deal. Clearly, he didn't fit into Yzerman's plans moving ahead.
I would have been more distraught about this if it had happened a year ago, but I don't think Downie's had a great season. He's certainly a long way off from being a part of what was, for a while, the NHL's most dominant line (with 26/91). I thought his skills with the puck seemed to plateau -- great passer, yes, but also prone to mistakes and sometimes turnovers. Even the pacifist hockey fans, though, will be resigned to note that the team just got a lot softer. |

I hope his plan doesn't include having a soft as hell squad. |

I sure hope and trust that there is something else on the horizon. Trading an NHL player for a pick that has less than a 40% chance of ever being a player isn't good.

I'm happy with this trade. Yes we get softer, but too many times he sat in the penalty box for just being Downie. |
