    Florida Everblades 3 @ Gwinnett Gladiators 4

LW Alex Hutchings, FLA: Did not play (injured)
    Season Totals: 14 GP, 7-5-12, +3, 10 PIM
G Pat Nagle, FLA: Loss, 26 saves on 30 shots
    Season Totals: 25 GP, 13-10-0-1, 2.97 GAA, .900 sv%, 1 SO

Nagle started his first game in nine days with a chance to propel the Everblades into a tie for first place in the South Division, but Gwinnett outshot Florida 30-20 on their way to a 4-3 win. The Glads held onto first place and moved four points ahead of Florida with the win. Defensemen Kevin Quick and Charles Landry, recently assigned to Florida from Norfolk, were recalled to the Admirals earlier this week.

Streaking Lightning extinguish Stars. (Cliche headlines are fun.)

Mathieu Garon allowed 1 goal on 28 shots for the victory. He shook off a little collision in the middle of the game to handle his business.

    First Period
TB Purcell (10), (St. Louis, Gervais), 18:48

    Second Period

    Third Period
    DAL Wandell (3), (Eriksson), 1:22
TB Purcell (11), (St. Louis, Lecavalier), 3:36

Teddy Purcell and Martin St. Louis were the game's first and second stars.

Karri Lehtonen saved the Stars from getting blown out early. The Lightning played one of their best periods of the season in the first, and their puck movement on the power play, in particular, was dazzling. They deserved to have a bigger lead going into the third and it was a relief that they held onto their 1 goal margin.

Brett Connolly had 4 penalty minutes in 6:28 and they were kind of lazy penalties. Bad rookie. Bad.

Trevor Smith had 2 hits in 4:41. Norfolk would like to clone him and send one of the two back to them right now.

Pierre-Cedric Labrie had 4 hits and a fight in 6:01. For those of you who were making a point to exalt Blair Jones' physical play even though he was averaging 1 hit a night: this is the kind of a stat line a 4th line lumberjack needs to put up. Keep chopping wood, Pierre-Cedric. He showed some nice technique on the short punches in close quarters at the start of the brawl with Nystrom.

Jaroslav Janus allowed 6 goals on 23 shots for the loss before being pulled for Dustin Tokarski for the third period. Tic stopped all 3 shots he faced the rest of the way in light work.

SYR Macenauer, (3) (Smaby, Maroon), 12:08
SYR Maroon, (18) (Carle, Sexton), 16:20

    Second Period
    SYR Sexton, (6) (McMillan), 3:48
    SYR Macenauer, (4) (Bodie), 8:46
SYR Maroon, (19) (Carle, Rodney), 15:41 (PP)

    Third Period
    NOR Angelidis, (9) (Fornataro), 4:25
NOR Angelidis, (10) (Ouellet, Fornataro), 4:51
NOR Panik, (9) (Devos, Palat), 19:54

It was a tough spot for the Admirals, having to make due with so few forwards and moving defensemen to play out of position. It got worse when they lost Mark Barberio tonight to an injury. Kudos to them for sticking to it in the third and making it a bit more respectable. At least there was a Panik attack.

Norfolk heads to Hartford tomorrow to play the Whale.

Norfolk's d-corps continues to surpass all expectations.

Dustin Tokarski allowed 4 goals on 28 shots for the win. He moved to 17-9-0 on the season for the win.

    First Period
ALB Veilleux, (6) (Urbom, Berube), 5:49
NOR Fornataro, (6) (Conacher, Barberio), 14:16 (PP)
ALB Veilleux, (7) (Sestito, Whitney), 16:13
    ALB Veilleux, (8) (Whitney), 18:28

    Second Period
NOR Oberg, (2) (Palat, Devos), 5:21
NOR Barberio, (5) (Johnson, Gudas), 6:09
ALB Wiseman, (3) (Palmieri, Zharkov), 13:28
NOR Ouellet, (9) (Kostka, Cote), 16:12
NOR Angelidis, (8) (Kostka, Cote), 16:38

    Third Period

Mark Barberio and Mike Kostka were the game's second and third stars. Barberio now holds a 5 point edge in the race to be the AHL's top scoring defenseman. He has 5 goals and 37 points in 38 games. With his multi-point game tonight, Kostka has moved into the top-20 among AHL defensemen in scoring with 6 goals and 20 points in 35 games. The bulk of that scoring has come since he joined Norfolk in the James Wright trade. He had just 2 goals and 6 points with San Antonio prior to the deal, but he's had 4 goals and 14 points since coming to Norfolk. Bear in mind Kostka had 16 goals and 54 points in 80 games with Rochester a year ago, which was tied for third in the league. So, the Admirals legitimately boast two of the absolute best offensive d-men in the league, which is part of the reason they're one of the most deadly offensive powers in the AHL this side of the Hershey Bears.

Tonight's victory was a bit of sweet revenge for a Norfolk team that had a temporary slump started by a third period collapse at home against the Devils just a few weeks ago. For the Admirals to overcome a 3-1 first period deficit that featured a Stephane Veilleux hat trick represented a nice bit of payback for the team.

Norfolk moves within 4 points of the Bears in the East Division standings with the victory. They continue their road trip in Syracuse on Friday.

    KHL (Russia):
    Cherepovets 1 @ Novosibirsk 0

    Season totals: 26 GP, 14-8-0, 4 SO, 2.47 GAA, .922 sv%

Ex-Devils first rounder and brother of former Lightning prospect Henrik Bergfors, Nicklas Bergfors had the game's lone goal in Cherepovets' 1-0 win over Novosibirsk. Vasily Koshechkin stopped all 29 shots he faced in the match. Cherepovets is off until next Tuesday when they'll face Nizhnekamsk.

    Heroes (just for one day).

Mathieu Garon allowed 3 goals on 29 shots for the victory.

    First Period
TB Lecavalier (18), (Gilroy, St. Louis), 7:11

    Second Period
    BOS Horton (15), (unassisted), 4:28
TB Pyatt (5), (Downie, Gilroy), 14:11
BOS Horton (16), (Ference, Krejci), 16:48

    Third Period
TB Malone (10), (Moore, Thompson), 4:58
    BOS Paille (8), (Chara, Seidenberg)(SH), 10:53
TB Moore (4), (Malone, Downie), 16:15
    TB Stamkos (31), (Lecavalier)(EN), 19:39

Dominic Moore, Tom Pyatt, and Ryan Malone were the game's three stars.

It took 44 games before the Lightning finally started to play with some pride in the 45th. 1 game in 45 isn't going to fix everything that's gone wrong, but tonight the Lightning are heroes once again.

Brett Connolly had 2 shots and 1 hit in 6:45.

Trevor Smith was +1 with 1 shot and 2 hits in 4:53.

Pierre-Cedric Labrie had 5 hits in 3:35. Now, that's the kind of production the Lightning signed him for.
