    Russia scored the game’s first goal and had it tied at two later in the game, but the WHL scored three times to win 5-2 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Neither Lightning prospect had a point in the game for Russia. The two teams play again Thursday night in Moose Jaw.

    The CHL leads the series 3-2.

    Nikita Kucherov had a second period goal after the game got out of hand in Russia's 6-3 loss to the OHL All-Stars. Nikita Nesterov was scoreless in the match. The OHL sweeps the second leg of the Super Series. Russia moves on to face the WHL-All Stars on Wednesday.

    Sweden held off a fierce late game rally to best Scandinavian rival Finland 4-3 in their final match of the Karjala Cup. Ex-Lightning netminder Karri Ramo was chased at 13:36 of the second period, and took a no-decision in the match. Ex-Blues d-man Christian Backman had the eventual game winner on a shorthanded goal. For his part, Lightning prospect Johan Harju was scoreless in all 3 games of the tournament.

    Elsewhere, Russia got a pair of third period goals to best Czech Republic 2-1. Russia wins the Karjala Cup with a 2-0-1 record in the tournament. Finland, Czech Republic, and Sweden, in that order, rounded out the table.

    Johan Harju had a first period minor for high sticking that led to Russia's game opening goal in Sweden's 4-1 loss today. Ex-Nashville Predator Alexander Radulov had 2 goals and 1 assist for the Russians. Sweden concludes with rival Finland on Sunday.

    In the other match of the round, ex-Lightning d-man Janne Niskala had a helper to contribute to Finland's 4-0 shutout of Czech Republic.

    In a wild one, Nikita Kucherov and Vladislav Namestnikov assisted on a Nikita Gusev goal and Nikita Nesterov added a power play assist, but it was not enough as Russia fell 10-7 to the OHL All-Stars. Ex-Lightning rookie camper Seth Griffith had 1 goal and 3 points for the OHL in the win. The two squads will square off again on Monday.

    Wow. In a series often dominated by the CHL's all-star teams because the Russians send their second and third string juniors, Russia has had a stunning start. Tonight, they defeated the QMJHL All-Stars 5-4 in the shootout to sweep the opening leg of the Subway Superseries. Up next: the OHL All-Stars tomorrow night. Lightning prospect Nikita Kucherov (pictured) helped lead the way with the game opening goal and a helper on a late goal that fell 15 seconds short of being the winner. He also converted on his lone shootout attempt. For his part, defenseman Nikita Nesterov was also a solid +3 in the match.

    Sergey Kostenko had a 42 save shutout to lead badly outshot Russia over the QMJHL All-Stars 2-0. Lightning prospect Nikita Kucherov was second on Russia with 3 shots on goal. Russia mustered just 12 attempts on net on losing goaltender Maxime Lagace.

    Game 2 is on Wednesday, when Nikita Nesterov may make his first appearance.

    Vasily Koshechkin and Cherepovets rode into the Karjala break in style with a 4-1 win over Riga. Ex-Lightning prospect Martins Karsums had Dynamo's lone goal, which was his 9th of the year. Cherepovets is off until a week from Wednesday when they'll play Mytischi.

    Johan Harju is on Sweden's initial roster for the Karjala tournament. Russia has yet to release theirs, which typically has included Koshechkin. Finland's roster features ex-Lightning players Janne Niskala and Karri Ramo while Czech Republic's features ex-Lightning picks Ivan Rachunek and Marek Kvapil.
