    Elitserien (Sweden)
Brynas 3 vs. Farjestads 4 (OT)

    Johan Harju, Brynas, 1-0-1, -1, 4 SOG, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 25 GP, 9-5-14, +3, 31 PIM

Farjestads jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first period and led until Johan Harju scored near the midpoint of the third period to send the game to overtime. There, in the final minute, Marcus Paulsson tapped in a loose rebound after a blast from the right circle to win the game for Farjestads, which really came on strong with seven shots in the extra session. Brynas earned a point, but it was the club's fourth consecutive loss. Harju's goal was a thing of beauty; on the play, he took a pass to his backhand while moving behind the net and, with a defender leaning on his back, angled the puck on his forehand towards the top of the crease before stopping and spinning to his backhand suddenly, shedding the defender, and then leisurely lifting a backhander up and over down-and-out Farjestads netminder Alexander Salak and into the wide-open net. Brynas (9-7-3-6, 39 PTS) next travels to face Lulea (11-6-5-2, 45 PTS), which it has beaten each of the last five games Lulea has been the host, on Saturday.

    SM-Liiga (Finland)
Ilves 2 vs. TPS 1 (OT)

    Anders Lindback, Ilves, W, 0.92 GAA, 46/47 (.979 SV%)
    Season totals: 7 GP, 2-4-1, 0 SO, 3.36 GAA, 227/251 (.904 SV%)

After two close losses in which he played very well, especially in last night's defeat to the Blues, Anders Lindback delivered a sensational performance Thursday night, his best to date in SM-Liiga play, in backstopping Ilves to a shootout win over TPS. After a scoreless first period, TPS struck first midway through the second period before Michael Keranen evened the score a couple minutes later for all the the scoring both teams would manage despite numerous offensive flurries--both teams combined for a total of 140 attempted shots on goal--at both ends throughout the match. Ville Koistenen scored the only goal of the shootout when he beat TPS netminder Atte Engren, who was also superb for the visiting squad, with a backhander. Locked-out NHLers Maxime Talbot (Ilves) and Kris Russell (TPS) registered secondary assists. After two games in two nights, Ilves (4-14-3-3, 21 points) is off until next Tuesday when they will face Lukko (9-12-1-3, 32 points).

    SM-Liiga (Finland)
    Ilves 3 @ Blues 4

    Anders Lindback, Ilves, L, 4.09 GAA, 43/47 (.914 SV%)
    Season totals: 6 GP, 1-4-1, 0 SO, 3.81 GAA, 181/204 (.887 SV%)

Anders Lindback followed up an impressive showing in a close loss to Assat on Friday night with a solid performance in yet another narrow defeat Wednesday night. After falling behind 3-1 in the first period, Ilves rallied, with goals from Matias Chord and Maxime Talbot, to send the game tied into the final frame but Niko Nieminen's second goal of the night with just over ten minutes remaining in the game proved ended up being the game-winner for the Blues, which ran the league's worst team ragged for the better part of the game. In so doing, the Blues kept Lindback busy with nearly 70 shot attempts, 47 of which made it on net, all the while limiting Ilves to 44 attempts and 23 actual shots on goal. Ilves (4-14-2-3, 19 points) has little time to dwell on this latest loss as they face TPS (4-10-5-4, 26 points), a team that has struggled almost as much as Ilves has so far this season, on Thursday.

    HockeyAllsvenskan (Sweden)
Vasteras 5 vs. Leksands 6 (OT)

    Brendan Mikkelson, Vasteras, 2-0-2, E, 6 SOG, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 6 GP, 2-1-3, E, 4 PIM

Patrik Berglund, who had another monster night (2 G, 2A), scored just 42 seconds in and Vasteras jumped out to a 3-0 lead halfway through the first period but Leksands battled back and even took the lead heading into the final frame before eventually winning in the shootout. What was a showdown between two of the league's top clubs was certainly entertaining from an offensive standpoint as both teams racked up a combined ten goals and 93 shots on goal in regulation. Locked-out Lightning D Brendan Mikkelson scored his first goals of the season, his first staking Vasteras to an early 2-0 lead while his second, a power play tally that tied the game with just under eight minutes left in regulation, he scored by drifting into the high slot and quickly snapping home a loose rebound. Vasteras (13-7-2-1, 44 PTS) is next in action on Sunday against Asploven (7-13-1-1, 24 PTS), which currently shares the third-worst record in the league.

    Elitserien (Sweden)
    Brynas 1 @ AIK 2 (OT)

    Season totals: 24 GP, 8-5-13, +4, 31 PIM

Brynas ran up an impressive 39-19 shot advantage but was repeatedly stymied by AIK netminder Daniel Larsson and ultimately came up short on the road Tuesday in what was its second-consecutive overtime loss. This time, though, Brynas met its demise in the shootout thanks to the hands and creativity of Niklas Jensen, selected 29th overall in the 2011 by the Vancouver Canucks. On the game-winning attempt, Jensen pulled a backhand deke back to his forehand in one slick motion before, with a quick release, tucking the puck just inside the blocker-side post and past Robin Rahm. Harju, who scored on the initial attempt of the shootout, registered a secondary assist on the game-tying goal by Calle Jarnkrok a few minutes into the second. Brynas (9-7-3-5, 38 PTS) returns home to face Farjestads (10-7-3-4, 40 PTS) on Thursday.
