    Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

    Gatineau Olympiques 3 @ Sherbrooke Phoenix 6

    C Cameron Darcy, SHR: 3-2-5, +1, 0 PIM, 8 SOG, 9/20 FO, 0 Hits, *First Star*
    With Sherbrooke: 5 GP, 5-7-12, -3, 4 PIM
    With Cape Breton: 21 GP, 1-13-14, -6, 14 PIM
    Season totals: 26 GP, 6-20-26, -9, 18 PIM
    2013-2014 Season: 65 GP, 35-47-82, +3, 51 PIM

Darcy extended his point streak to seven games while announcing his figurative “return” to the QMJHL. Darcy, who was in search of a pro contract this fall, struggled after coming back to Cape Breton and was eventually scratched and traded. His five-point game tonight gets him to a point-per-game pace for the season and Sherbrooke will enjoy the QMJHL Second-Team All-Star for the rest of the year. This is the player Cape Breton thought they were receiving when the Lightning decided to send Darcy back to the Q in September.

Quebec Remparts 2 @ Chicoutimi Sagueneens 1 (SO)

    2013-2014 Season: 48 GP, 21-41-62, -3, 65 PIM

Quebec won in a shootout for the second straight night. Julio Billia saved Erne’s attempt in the skills competition. Erne had a brief, three-game point streak snapped.

Darcy (estrieplus.com photo) extended his point streak to six games and scored for the second game after not scoring into a guarded net until he was traded to Sherbrooke. His numbers with the Phoenix, albeit early, are what was expected from him this season after being a second-team all-star last year. Sherbrooke scored the game’s final three goals, all in the third period. The game-winner was scored with 29 seconds left in regulation.

    Quebec Remparts 2 @ Baie-Comeau Drakkar 1 (SO)

Quebec won the shootout, 1-0, to take the game, 2-1. Erne played his first game since being cut from Team USA and scored a goal. In an interview with La Presse, Erne said he was bitter about USA’s decision, saying team officials never gave him a reason why he was released after making the team last year. He’s using the decision as motivation for the rest of the season and through the Memorial Cup.

Team USA 5 vs No. 1 Boston University Terriers 2 (Exhibition)

    D Anthony DeAngelo, USA: 1-0-1, +2, 0 PIM, 1 SOG
    W Adam Erne, USA: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, 4 SOG

    D John MacLeod, BU: 0-0-1, -2, 0 PIM, 0 SOG
    Season totals: 15 GP, 2-3-5, +6, 34 PIM
    2013-2014 totals: 19 GP, 1-4-5, +1, 36 PIM

USA’s pre-World Junior Championship lineup defeated No. 1 Boston University in an exhibition game Friday, 5-2. Jack Eichel (2015) captained Team USA, which was odd considering he plays for BU normally. He scored a goal.

Anthony DeAngelo had an empty-net goal for USA, an extra positive considering the offensive defenseman was on the ice in a defensive situation. Fellow Lightning prospect Adam Erne, thought to be a lock to play for USA again, was on the fourth line and was one of three cuts after the game. He’ll return to Quebec while DeAngelo continues to secure a spot on the team. Media speculation is Erne was a victim of forward depth, but that’s odd considering Erne was on the team last year (though he had one assist in five games), provides a power forward presence, and is one of the better 19-year-olds in the world. Others have speculated Erne was an example of meritocracy, saying all spots must be earned from a clean slate.

For the Terriers, John MacLeod played but the defenseman did not factor into the scoring.

In other World Juniors news, congratulations to Brayden Point for making Team Canada. Going into the camps, Point was thought to be firmly on the bubble, whereas Erne was thought to be a lock.
