Potential 2013 first rounder Zachary Fucale stopped all 28 shots he faced to lead the Mooseheads to a 4-0 victory over the Drakkar in Game 1 of the QMJHL Finals. Baie-Comeau succeeded in holding the duo of Nate MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin to one assist, but still came up four goals short. With his assist, Drouin tied Sven Andrighetto (2013) of Rouyn-Noranda for the playoff scoring lead. This was MacKinnon’s first scoreless game since Game 2 of Halifax’s first round series against Saint John. Game 2 of the Finals is Saturday night in Halifax.

Note: With the Lightning picking No. 3 in this summer’s draft, it is widely expected they will choose either MacKinnon or Drouin with their first round pick. We will follow both prospects for the duration of their playoff run as we did with Steven Stamkos after the Lightning won the 2008 draft lottery.

The Drakkar eliminated the Armada four games to two with a 4-0 shutout win on Sunday. Cedric Paquette finished his junior career scoreless in seven straight games after starting the playoffs on fire. He could be signed and assigned to AHL Syracuse to practice with the Crunch for the duration of the AHL playoffs, though unlike Nikita Kucherov, Paquette isn’t already signed. He is expected to be signed at some time in the offseason and the agitator should spend some time with AHL Syracuse next year.

The Drakkar will play powerhouse Halifax in the QMJHL Finals. If Tampa Bay remains in the third draft slot after Monday's lottery, we will follow Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin for the rest of Halifax's playoff and Memorial Cup run. Seth Jones is expected to go first or second, pushing one of the Mooseheads to the Lightning.

The last North American junior prospect remaining for the Lightning is Jake Dotchin of Barrie, who plays Game 7 against Belleville on Monday night.

    (1)Halifax Mooseheads 9 @ (8)Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 6
    Halifax wins Best-of-7 Semifinals, 4-0

    W Nikita Kucherov, R-N: 0-3-3, -1, 0 PIM, 5 SOG, 0 Hits
    Playoff totals: 14 GP, 9-15-24, +8, 10 PIM

    With Quebec: 6 GP, 3-7-10, -1, 2 PIM

Nikita Kucherov’s junior career came to an end Thursday as the Huskies were downed 9-6 by the powerhouse Mooseheads. Kucherov, who was scoreless in his last two games, had three assists in his playoff finale. His linemate, Sven Andrighetto (2013), had four assists for first star honors. 2013 top first rounders Nathan MacKinnon (2-2-4) and Jonathan Drouin (2-1-3) also had big games. The Lightning could one of the two Mooseheads if they end up picking at No. 3 this summer. Andrighetto was passed over in two drafts, but could still be a late option for the Lightning who could step right in to Syracuse if desired. Andrighetto exits the playoffs as its leading scorer with 30 points in 14 games. Kucherov is tied for fourth with 24 points.

Linday Kramer of the Syracuse Post-Standard reported early on Friday that Crunch GM Julien BriseBois said Kucherov will join Syracuse next week, but his role may be more developmental than being a part of the playoff effort. This will help Kucherov for next year if nothing else.

For the second straight game Halifax won in overtime and for the second straight game the Mooseheads kept Nikita Kucherov off the scoresheet. Both accomplishments resulted in a 3-2 win for Halifax and a commanding 3-0 series lead. Jonathan Druin scored the game-winner off a give-and-go down low with Nathan MacKinnon. Both players are expected to go top-3 in this summer's draft and as of this posting the Lightning have a legitimate shot at one of them. The Huskies were outshot 49-24 in the game, including 11-1 in overtime. Their task is now even more monumental, having to win four straight against arguably the best team in junior hockey. Game 4 is Thursday.
