    (W6) Tri-City Storm 2 @ (W3) Waterloo Black Hawks 3
USHL First Round – Waterloo wins best of 3 series 2-0

G Adam Wilcox, TC: Loss, 28 saves on 31 shots
    Playoff Totals: 2 GP, 0-2-0, 4.70 GAA, .842 sv%
    Season Totals (with Tri-City): 34 GP, 16-17-1-1, 2.91 GAA, .916 sv%, 1 SO
    Season Totals (with Green Bay): 9 GP, 7-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .918 sv%, 2 SO

Wilcox’s USHL career came to an end Tuesday night in Iowa as the Waterloo Black Hawks overcame playing half the second period shorthanded to defeat Tri-City and advance in the USHL playoffs. Wilcox had a remarkable year for the Storm after being acquired midseason from Green Bay. He was First Star in nearly every other game it seemed like as he backstopped Tri-City to the playoffs. They were nowhere close when he was acquired. The magic ran out in the playoffs, however. Though a goalie is capable of stealing a best of 3 series on his own, one bad game and he can lose it. That happened in Game 1. Wilcox will next be seen at the Lightning’s prospect camp in early summer (most likely) before he heads to the University of Minnesota to play for his home state Gophers. Congrats on a great year, Adam.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Kitchener beat Plymouth in Game 7 so Vladislav Namestnikov and the London Knights will play their hated rivals in the OHL Western Conference Finals. In the QMJHL, Chicoutimi beat Memorial Cup-host Shawinigan in Game 7 and Halifax came back from a 3-1 series deficit to defeat Patrick Roy's Quebec Remparts in Game 7. Danick Gauthier and Saint John will play Chicoutimi in the league semifinals. Rimouski plays Halifax in the other semifinals.

    (W6) Tri-City Storm 4 @ (W3) Waterloo Black Hawks 6
USHL First Round – Waterloo leads best of 3 series 1-0

G Adam Wilcox, TC: Loss, 20 saves on 26 shots
    Playoff Totals: 1 GP, 0-1-0, 6.37 GAA, .769 sv%
    Season Totals (with Tri-City): 34 GP, 16-17-1-1, 2.91 GAA, .916 sv%, 1 SO
    Season Totals (with Green Bay): 9 GP, 7-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .918 sv%, 2 SO

Ouch. Wilcox got four goals of offensive support against third-seeded Waterloo, but despite being one of the best goaltenders in the league during the year he couldn’t stop the Black Hawks from breaking open a close game in the second period. The Storm entered the middle frame tied 2-2, but Waterloo beat Wilcox three more times before the third period began. They’d add a sixth goal early in the third for a 6-2 lead before Tri-City scored a couple late goals. Wilcox played only about 90 minutes of action last year in the playoffs for Green Bay on their way to a championship. Game 2 is Tuesday at Waterloo and Wednesday the same if necessary.

    Season Totals (with Green Bay): 9 GP, 7-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .918 sv%, 2 SO

    OHL

    (W1) London Knights 5 @ (W5) Saginaw Spirit 5
Western Conference Semifinals – London wins best of 7 series 4-2

    C Vladislav Namestnikov , LDN: 0-2-2, +1, 0 PIM
    Playoff Totals: 10 GP, 3-6-9, +5, 8 PIM
    Season Totals: 63 GP, 22-49-71, +15, 50 PIM

London closed out their conference semifinal series against Saginaw with a 5-3 road win. London is likely breathing a sigh of relief as the series was much closer than the 4-2 final game tally. London was down two games to one heading back to Michigan and got a big road win. Then Namestnikov made a strong individual effort in overtime of Game 5 to score the game winner and give London a pivotal win. Namestnikov has four points in his last two games after taking some criticism from the London fanbase for failing to make his mark early in the series. The Knights will await the winner of the Kitchener-Plymouth series. Plymouth leads 3-2 after shutting out the Rangers on Saturday.

    Season Totals (with Green Bay): 9 GP, 7-2-0, 2.27 GAA, .918 sv%, 2 SO

After handling nearly all the goaltending duties from the time he was acquired from Green Bay to leading the Storm to securing a playoff spot, Wilcox got the night off. Tri-City has one more game before the playoffs begin and can’t move up in the standings.

    OHL

    (W5) Saginaw Spirit 1 @ (W1) London Knights 2 (OT)
Western Conference Semifinals – London leads best of 7 series 3-2

    C Vladislav Namestnikov , LDN: 1-1-2, +2, 2 PIM (roughing)
    Playoff Totals: 9 GP, 3-4-7, +4, 8 PIM
    Season Totals: 63 GP, 22-49-71, +15, 50 PIM

Huge. Lightning prospect Vladislav Namestnikov (pictured) scored at 4:58 of the first overtime to give the Knights a 2-1 Game 5 win and a 3-2 series lead over Saginaw. The story for much of the game was Saginaw goaltender Jake Paterson, who is expected to go in the second round of this summer’s draft. Paterson stopped 46 shots on Friday – many of them in spectacular fashion. Lightning camper Seth Griffith had a helper and a tip-in goal for London, and defenseman Olli Maatta, who could go around the midway point of the first round this summer, had the primary assist on Namestnikov’s game winner. Game 6 is Saturday in Saginaw.

    Playoff Totals: 8 GP, 7-3-10, +8, 10 PIM
    Season Totals: 67 GP, 47-39-86, +46, 67 PIM

While Baie-Comeau could congratulate themselves for being the first team to come within two goals of Saint John in a playoff game, that party will have to be held while they are packing up their locker room as the Sea Dogs completed the sweep of the Drakkar with a 5-3 win Wednesday. Gauthier was held scoreless for the first time in six games, though he tied for the team lead with seven shots on goal. Saint John will await the lowest seed to advance to the semifinals.

    OHL

    (W1) London Knights 5 @ (W5) Saginaw Spirit 2
Western Conference Semifinals – Best of 7 series tied 2-2

    C Vladislav Namestnikov, LDN: 1-0-1, +2, 0 PIM
    Playoff Totals: 8 GP, 2-2-4, +2, 4 PIM
    Season Totals: 63 GP, 22-49-71, +15, 50 PIM

Vladislav Namestnikov’s second goal of the playoffs, scored in the first period, gave London a 3-0 lead and turned out to be the game winner as the Knights scored four times in the first period, chasing Saginaw goalie Jake Paterson, and added an empty netter late for the 5-2 score to even the series at two games apiece. London takes back home ice advantage in the series, which shifts back to London for Game 5 on Friday night. Namestnikov’s goal was scored when he banged in a rebound off a Seth Griffith shot. (W5) Saginaw Spirit 5 @ (W1) London Knights 2
Western Conference Semifinals – Saginaw leads best of 7 series 2-1

    C Vladislav Namestnikov, LDN: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM
    Playoff Totals: 7 GP, 1-2-3, E, 4 PIM
    Season Totals: 63 GP, 22-49-71, +15, 50 PIM

Saginaw stole home ice advantage away from top-seeded London on Monday night by winning in the Knights’ barn, 5-2. Spirit goalie Jake Paterson (pictured), who was ranked No.3 among North American goalies by Central Scouting in their final draft rankings for 2012, stopped 42 of 44 shots for first star honors. Paterson could be a target of the Lightning with one of their second round picks. Among the saves he had was a remarkable stop on a Vlad Namestnikov slapshot that reportedly seemed like a sure goal. It would have been Namestnikov’s second point in his last six games. He has been in a defensive role, matched-up against Saginaw’s Brandon Saad (Blackhawks). However, Saad was on the ice for three Spirit goals on Monday, but Namesntikov was on the bench each time. Game 4 is Wednesday in Saginaw.

Namestnikov, whose line was matched up against Saad to start Game 2, has one assist in his last five games. Game 3 is Monday in London. <
