    Ottawa 67’s 6 @ Peterborough Petes 3

    D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 0-1-1, -3, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 36 GP, 6-21-27, -26, 28 PIM

Slater Koekkoek extended his point streak to four games with a late assist in Saturday night’s loss to Ottawa. The game was not as close as the final score indicates as Ottawa held a 5-1 lead early in the second period. The Petes were able to put 51 shots on net, however. Koekkoek was on the ice for four of the 67’s goals, but only had a direct effect in two of the goals against. His play in his own end was active, but sporadic. The commentators during the game mentioned how the d-corps of the Petes had trouble executing the game plan and had several bouts of miscommunication. Offensively, Koekkoek was solid and efficient, making several deep rushes and long passes to set up teammates. He looks to rush the puck a lot and has the skill and wheels to do so. It seems obvious he has the green light to rush it whenever he wants. He plays like a player who is expected to provide most of the offense for the club. The OHL trade deadline is coming up and Koekkoek’s name has been in rumors, though with another year of junior in his future, it’s unlikely that a player of his skill and age would be dealt. London is always looking to deal and playing in London with the Hunters would do wonders for Koekkoek’s development.

    Ontario Hockey League

    Brampton Battalion 3 @ Sarnia Sting 2

    D Dylan Blujus, BRAM: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 37 GP, 2-13-15, -10, 28 PIM

Blake Clarke (2014) scored twice to lead Brampton to a 3-1 road win over Sarnia.

Erie Otters 1 @ Owen Sound Attack 6

    D Jake Dotchin, OS: 0-3-3, +1, 2 PIM
    Season totals: 33 GP, 2-11-13, +4, 37 PIM

Lightning prospect Jake Dotchin (pictured) had a career-high three assists in one game as the Attack earned two points by beating visiting Erie, 6-1. This was Dotchin’s second 3-point game in his career – he had a goal and two assists against Peterborough last February. He now has 13 points in 33 games and is on pace to set a new career high for goals, assists, and points in a season (3-16-19 in 2011-12).

    Peterborough Petes 5 @ Kingston Frontenacs 2

    D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 1-0-1, -1, 0 PIM
    Season totals: 35 GP, 6-20-26, -23, 28 PIM

Slater Koekkoek scored his sixth goal of the season late in the third on the power play to put the game away for Peterborough, who beat Kingston on the road, 5-2. Koekkoek, who hit the post minutes before he scored, slid into the high slot from the right point and one-timed a pass from Steven Trojanovic (undrafted) through Kingston goalie Mike Morrison (undrafted), who played for the Petes last year. The puck trickled over the line before being swept back into play, but the referee ruled it a goal. The OHL offices in Toronto took more than eight minutes to confirm it was a goal.

Note: Prospects Nikita Kucherov (Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL), Artem Sergeev (Val-d'Or, QMJHL), and Tanner Richard (Guelph, OHL) are participating in the 2013 World Junior Championships and are therefore not with their respective club teams.

Sweden 3 vs. Switzerland 2 (SO)
    Tanner Richard, Switzerland, 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIM, 1 SOG
    Tournament totals: 2 GP, 0-3-3, +1, 2 PIM

Victor Rask's shootout tally lifted Sweden to a 3-2 shootout victory over Switzerland. Switzerland took Sweden to the brink, and held a lead into the Third Period on Mike Kunzle's third goal of the tournament, but they could not hold off the defending Gold Medalists. Tanner Richard was scoreless in the match and took a minor for high sticking that turned into Sweden's opening goal of the game. He was also 50% on draws. The Swiss now sit in 2nd place on the Group A table with games against Finland and Czech Republic yet to go. They face the Finns next on Sunday.

    Russia 2 vs. USA 1
    Nikita Kucherov, Russia, 0-0-0, E, 2 PIM, 3 SOG
    Tournament totals: 2 GP, 1-0-1, +1, 2 PIM

    Nikita Nesterov, Russia, 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM, 0 SOG

    Artem Sergeev, Russia, 0-1-1, +1, 0 PIM, 2 SOG

    Andrey Vasilevskiy, Russia, DNP
    Tournament totals: 1 GP, 1-0-0, 0 SO, 1.85 GAA. .941 sv%

Artem Sergeev (pictured) assisted on Viktor Tkachyov's goal early in the Third Period that gave Russia a critical 2-1 win over Team USA. Sergeev's helper means that all Lightning prospects have now found the scoresheet in Ufa, through the first two games of the Round Robin. Fellow Lightning prospect defenseman Nikita Nesterov also had a helper in the match, assisting an Albert Yarullin goal on the power play. Forward Nikita Kucherov took a holding minor in the match, and was in the box for Jacob Trouba's lone goal for the Americans. Andrey Vasilevskiy sat backup to undrafted Saskatoon netminder Andrei Makarov who turned away 41 shots for the win. Russia faces Germany next on Saturday and sits 2nd behind Canada on the Group B table.

    Switzerland 7 vs. Latvia 2
    Tanner Richard, Switzerland, 0-3-3, +2, 0 PIM, 1 SOG
    Tournament totals: 1 GP, 0-3-3, +2, 0 PIM

In what should come as no surprise to OHL fans, Lightning prospect Tanner Richard started his tournament with assists in triplicate in Switzerland's 7-2 thumping of Team Latvia. Perhaps more impressively though, Richard's assists came at even strength, shorthanded, and on the power play, respectively, missing the empty netter for a "Lemieux cycle" of assists (no assists can be awarded on a penalty shot, of course). He was also 75% on his draws in the game, as Switzerland dominated the faceoff circles overall. Switzerland faces Sweden next on Friday.

Slovakia forced overtime with a dramatic power play goal with 36 seconds left in regulation by Richard Mraz, but could not finish the comeback in the overtime session. Nikita Kucherov scored the game opening goal for Russia and was second on Team Russia in shots on goal with 4. Goaltender Andrey Vasilevskiy (pictured) was named Russia's player of the game after the match. Russia plays Team USA next on Friday.

    Ontario Hockey League

    Niagara IceDogs 1 @ Brampton Battalion 7

    D Dylan Blujus, BRAM: 0-0-0, E, 2 PIM
    Season totals: 36 GP, 2-13-15, -10, 28 PIM

Brandon Robinson (2014) had a hat trick and four points to lead the Battalion to a big win over visiting Niagara, 7-1. Lightning prospect Dylan Bluus did not register a point and was one of only three Brampton players not to register a positive plus/minus rating for the game.

    Barrie Colts 4 @ Peterborough Petes 1

D Slater Koekkoek, PBO: 1-0-1, -2, 0 PIM, *Third Star*
    Season totals: 34 GP, 5-20-25, -22, 28 PIM

Slater Koekkoek (pictured) scored his fifth goal of the season, but that was the only goal the Petes could manage in a 4-1 loss to visiting Barrie. Koekkoek, who has points in three of his last four games, is just five points behind center Francis Menard (undrafted) for the team lead in points. Koekkoek’s 25 points are seventh in the league for defensemen. He leads Peterborough in assists with 20.
