    Kingston Frontenacs 2 @ Barrie Colts 5
    LW/C Alex Hutchings, BAR: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM
    Season Totals: 44 GP, 28-23-51, +29, 38 PIM

Barrie has won five in a row and eight of their past 10. This game featured a rare goalie fight at the end of the second period. The Barrie Examiner has the story: "The bizarre brouhahas started when Kingston's Ethan Werek scored to cut Barrie's lead to 2-1 with a few seconds to go in the second period.

"Werek apparently got a little too close to [Barrie goaltender Mavric] Parks – named after the Top Gun character played by Tom Cruise – which only fuelled an already frustrated Parks, who went after his former teammate and landed a quick jab on the Kingston forward.

"A scramble ensued after the Parks-Werek dust-up, and that's when goalie Tyler Beskorowany -- and his six-foot-five, 204-pound frame -- saw an opportunity.

"'I had to,' said Beskorowany, who skated 185 feet down ice to find a willing six-foot, 183-pound dance partner. "Stuff happens. It's too bad the refs got in the way. I was having fun.'"

This is why we love junior hockey. And there is no truth to the rumor that Mavric closed his eyes, clenched his necklace, and said “Talk to me Goose” before the fight.

    QMJHL

    Baie-Comeau Drakkar 0 @ Moncton Wildcats 6
    D Mark Barberio, MCT: 1-0-1, +4, 4 PIM, 3 SOG
    Season Totals: 41 GP, 9-25-34, +24, 40 PIM

Barberio’s goal at the one-minute mark of the opening period turned out to be the game winner and made it three consecutive games in which he’s scored a goal. He has an eight game point streak (third longest active streak in the league) and has scored six of his nine goals in that span. Barberio (pictured) is fifth among QMJHL defensemen in assists, points, and plus/minus. He is ninth in goals.

    OHL

    Barrie Colts 4 @ Plymouth Whalers 2
    LW/C Alex Hutchings, BAR: 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIM (roughing)
    Season Totals: 42 GP, 26-23-49, +27, 36 PIM

Another big road win for Barrie. Hutchings hasn’t registered a point in four games, which is his longest scoreless stretch since his 2006-07 rookie year. Since Barrie continues to win, one would think the frustration level isn't too high.

    Oshawa Generals 3 @ Sudbury Wolves 4
G Michael Zador, OSH: Did not play.
    Season Totals: 28 GP, 11-14-2-1, 3.60 GAA, .894 sv%, 1 SO
W Matias Sointu, SBY: Did not play (injured).
    Season Totals: 31 GP, 5-9-14, E, 12 PIM
    With Sudbury: 10 GP, 2-2-4, -5, 6 PIM
    With Ottawa: 21 GP, 3-7-10, +5, 6 PIM

Zador hasn’t made a start since January 3. He is currently on a five-game losing streak, though the latest loss was in relief. Sointu is still recovering from surgery in Finland. He is expected to re-join the Wolves at the end of the month.

    WHL

Edmonton Oil Kings 2 @ Regina Pats 5
RW Carter Ashton, REG: 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIM (kneeing)
    Season Totals: 41 GP, 18-18-36, -11, 75 PIM
    With Regina: 13 GP, 5-5-10, -3, 23 PIM
    With Lethbridge: 28 GP, 13-13-26, -8, 52 PIM

Regina won their third in a row. Former Lightning prospect Torrie Jung stopped 41 of 46 shots in the loss and was named Third Star. The overager is 7-20-2-5 on the year with a 3.39 GAA, .895 save percentage, and one shutout.

    Season Totals: 37 GP, 11-10-21, +11, 27 PIM
    With Bulls: 4 GP, 2-1-3, -4, 8 PIM

RW Kyle DeCoste, BEL: 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM
    Season Totals: 39 GP, 13-8-21, -6, 37 PIM
    With Bulls: 26 GP, 11-7-18, -4, 17 PIM
    With SSM: 13 GP, 2-1-3, -2, 20 PIM

Belleville scored early in the second period to take a 1-0 lead, but that lead quickly evaporated and the Bulls couldn’t get closer in Peterborough.

    Barrie Colts 4 @ Windsor Spitfires 2
    LW/C Alex Hutchings, BAR: 0-0-0, +1, 0 PIM
    Season Totals: 41 GP, 26-23-49, +28, 34 PIM

Barrie won the first match-up between the OHL’s heavyweights, besting the Spits on Windsor ice 4-2. Windsor held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the game, but it was decided late on a Barrie shorthanded goal with just over five minutes left in the game. The Colts would add an empty netter.

    WHL

Brandon Wheat Kings 2 @ Regina Pats 4
RW Carter Ashton, REG: 1-0-1, E, 0 PIM

    With Regina: 12 GP, 5-5-10, -2, 21 PIM
    With Lethbridge: 28 GP, 13-13-26, -8, 52 PIM

Regina won their second in a row, skating to a 3-0 second period lead and never looking back. Ashton’s 18th goal of the year came on the power play. He has goals in three of his last four games, and four goals in that span.

OHL Note: Alex Hutchings of Barrie was named to the OHL Eastern Conference All-Star team Wednesday. This is Hutchings' third time as an All-Star.

    QMJHL

    Halifax Mooseheads 0 @ Moncton Wildcats 3
    D Mark Barberio, MCT: 1-0-1, +2, 0 PIM, 3 SOG
    Season Totals: 40 GP, 8-25-33, +20, 36 PIM

Barberio has scored in consecutive games, and after a slow start is approaching his career-high of 15 goals in a season. His plus-20 rating obliterates his previous career-high of plus-9. Both marks were set last season.

    OHL

    Sudbury Wolves 7 @ Oshawa Generals 4
W Matias Sointu, SBY: Did not play.
    Season Totals: 31 GP, 5-9-14, E, 12 PIM
    With Sudbury: 10 GP, 2-2-4, -5, 6 PIM
    With Ottawa: 21 GP, 3-7-10, +5, 6 PIM

G Michael Zador, OSH: 2 saves on 4 shots
    Season Totals: 28 GP, 11-13-2-1, 3.60 GAA, .894 sv%, 1 SO

Zador started on the bench for the third straight game, but entered the contest when Kevin Bailie was pulled after giving up five goals on 27 shots. It’s been almost a month since Oshawa has given up less than three goals in a game. The Generals are in fourth in the East Division, five points ahead of Richard Panik, Kyle DeCoste and Belleville. Meanwhile, Sointu still hasn’t rejoined Sudbury after the WJCs because he recently had surgery in Finland for an undisclosed injury, according to the Sudbury Star. He is expected to rejoin the team in late January. Sudbury is in third in the Central Division.
