    The No. 2 Miami Redhawks dropped their season opener to unranked Bedmidji State. Freshman, James Mullin has now scored in his first two games for the Redhawks. The two teams meet again tonight.

    The Broncos opened their season impressively, scoring four first period goals in route to a lopsided win over Alabama-Huntsville. Luke Witkowski started his year off with an assist. In 42 games last season Witkowski had one goal and eight assists.

    No.3 North Dakota started their season with a win beating Air Force. New York Islanders prospect, Brock Nelson, had two goals and an assist for the Sioux including the game winner in the third. North Dakota takes on No. 5 Boston College tonight in the Ice Breaker final.

    This is going to hurt for a while. WMU had the higher ranked Pioneers down 2-0 with five minutes left in the third period headed for an upset win when Denver scored twice in under two minutes to send the game to overtime. Jason Zucker (Minnesota Wild) scored the game winner in the extra session for Denver, who will move on to play North Dakota for the right to represent the Midwest Region in the Frozen Four.

    Witkowski’s sophomore season comes to an end in disappointing fashion, but the big rearguard made great strides in his second year with WMU. He was one of the Broncos’ leaders on defense and played big minutes. Witkowski tied for the team lead in penalty minutes and was tops in plus/minus. He’s got a great future ahead of him.

    The Broncos tied the game at two early in the third period but could not hold off a late game rush by the Redhawks and fell in the CCHA tournament final.

    The Broncos will now wait for a possible NCAA tournament bid Sunday. The tournament will begin Friday, March 25.

    #3 Yale Bulldogs 6 vs. #20 Cornell Big Red 0

    Yale goalie Ryan Rondeau(undrafted) stopped 22 shots for the shutout to give Yale the ECAC tournament title.

    Cornell (16-15-3) will sit and hope to receive a bid for the NCAA Tournament. The Big Red are rated 27th in the Pairwise Comparison Ratings, which is college hockey's objective system for ranking teams for tournament bids. There will be 16 teams that make the tournament. There are five automatic bids that go to the conference tournament champions of the five Division I conferences. The remaining 11 teams are selected based upon the Pairwise Ratings.

    Boston College, Miami, Yale, Air Force, and North Dakota all have automatic bids. The Tournament Selection Show is tomorrow (Sunday) at 11:30 a.m. ET on ESPN2.

    Semifinals

    #12 Western Michigan Broncos 5 vs. #4 Michigan Wolverines 2

    Western Michigan avenged two regular season losses to Michigan and moved into the finals of the CCHA Tournament. The Broncos jumped out to a 3-0 lead early into the second period and held on to knock out the tournament No. 1 seed Wolverines.

    The Broncos now face No. 3 seed Miami in the tournament final Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The Broncos have not been in the finals of the CCHA tournament since 1986. Western was 1-2-1 against the Redhawks during the regular season. Miami beat Notre Dame 6-2 to reach the finals.

    Cornell junior goalie Mike Garman(undrafted) made 22 saves helping Cornell blank Dartmouth and send the Big Red to the ECAC tournament finals. It was Garman's first shutout of his career at Cornell.

    Cornell now faces tournament No. 1 seed Yale in the tournament final Saturday night. The Big Red went 0-2-0 against the Bulldogs in the regular season. Yale defeated Colgate 4-0 to advance to the finals.

    Quarterfinals - Game 3

    Harvard Crimson 3 @ #18 Dartmouth Big Green 4
    Dartmouth wins series 2-1

    F Alex Killorn, HAR: 0-0-0, Even, 0 PIM, 5 SOG
    Season totals: 34 GP, 15-14-29, +7, 36 PIM

    Harvard made it interesting scoring with .20 seconds left to pull within one but were unable to even it up.

    The Crimson finish with a 12-21-1 record. They went 5-3-1 in the month of February to push themselves into the playoffs and eventually knock out No. 7 seed Clarkson in the first round.

    Killorn, a junior, finished the season as the team's leading goal scorer with 15 and was second on the team in total points with 29. He set career highs in both categories, as well as assists with 14. He also led the team a plus-7 rating.

    In his three years at Harvard, Killorn has played 96 games registering 30 goals and 33 assists for 63 points.

    Cornell senior Joe Devin (undrafted) scored midway through the first overtime to win the series for Cornell. Gotovets recorded his first point in 20 games for the Big Red as they move onto the semifinals against Dartmouth.

    Senior Max Campbell (NY Rangers) scored his 18th of the season 2:23 into overtime to win the series for Western Michigan. The Broncos led 3-0 and 4-1 in the game before Ferris State clawed their way back to send it to overtime.

    The Broncos now face tournament No. 1 seed Michigan in the semifinals. Western was 0-2-0 against Michigan in the regular season.

    Vermont gave a gallant effort to stay alive in the HEAST Tournament tying the game at the 16:26 mark of the third period. However, the Wildcats answered right back at 17:00 as senior, Mike Sislo (undrafted) scored the eventual game and series winner.

    Vermont finishes the season with a (8-20-8) record. Marshall, a junior, recorded a career high in goals with three this season and equaled last seasons total of five points. He finished the season with three points in his last four games.

    In his three year career at Vermont, Marshall has played 84 games compiling five goals and nine assists for 14 points.
