Newyorkrangers.com is reporting the Lightning prospects lost their opener in the Traverse City prospect tournament tonight 3-2 in overtime to the Rangers' prospects. Zbynek Hrdel and Marek Kvapil had the Lightning's goals. The Lightning scored both goals late to force the extra session. The Lightning prospects were outshot 34-30. Update: Erik Erlendsson of the Trib makes a late blog post on the tournament. According to his post, it was not Marek Kvapil but rather Justin Keller scoring the tying goal with 5 seconds left from Radek Smolenak and Blair Jones. Vladimir Mihalik had an assist on Zbynek Hrdel's goal. Riku Helenius stopped 32 of 35 for the Lightning, according to Erlendsson. Update 2: Leslie Treff of Hockey's Future also has a recap of the day’s activities. Treff's report singles out Helenius, Mihalik, and Smolenak for their good play from Tampa, and also was impressed with Tampa's own-zone coverage. Also, the St. Pete Times, using Wire services, says Keller got the second Lightning goal, so it appears that mystery is solved by a 2-1 count. Keller was known for his clutch goals in Kelowna the past few years, including the Memorial Cup winning goal in 2003. Update 3: Word from the Lightning is that the team battled hard, then slacked off a little bit. Matt Smaby, Mihalik, and Helenius were singled out as Tampa's top players for the game. It's nice to see some

It's nice to see some praise for Mihalik! He's one that kind of worries me.

Keep an eye on Hrdel

He could be a wild card at the Bolts camp for one of the forward jobs. Despite his age, he seems to be big enough and sturdy enough to handle the NHL. He has good scoring tools and the ability to play at both ends of the ice. The big question is will he play every shift with intensity. If he decides to do so, he may be in the mix all the way to cut-down day. I'd like to see him score consistently at TC so he gets a shot to make things interesting at camp.

Doubt It

But I do think he's a serious threat to win the last forward job with Springfield. He's just not a better player than Tarnasky or Reid IMO.
