More Prospect Signings Coming?

Erik Erlensson of the Tribune suggests the Lightning may move to sign some of their college prospects like Matt Smaby, Brady Greco and Jay Rosehill to build up their minor league depth at the position. Lightning GM Jay Feaster has made it known he thinks the NCAA ranks are too soft for his taste and hinted strongly to a Smaby signing may be in the offing. When Andreas Holmqvist's return to Linkopings in Sweden freed up a roster spot in Springfield it all but sealed the deal that the Lightning would attempt to get Smaby to go pro. Greco and Rosehill, on the other hand, would presumably provide depth in Johnstown of the ECHL. Greco is a solid two-way defenseman entering his senior season at Colorado College. Injuries slowed Greco as a junior but "The Mayor" was a fixture for the Tigers on the power play as a soph. Rosehill is a big, rugged stay-at-home blueliner who earned Minnesota-Duluth's Most Improved Player Award as a freshman. Other Lightning college prospects not mentioned in the article but who might provide depth in Johnstown include D/RW Arthur Femenella of Vermont and John Toffey of Massachussetts. Femenella is a mammoth 6'7" enforcer prospect and Toffey is an athletic two-way center who has yet to find success at the NCAA level between Ohio State and UMass. The Lightning also informally have defenseman Paul Lynch who split time between three ECHL teams after leaving (being excused from, rather) UMASS last year still floating in limbo as well as proven ECHLer Jeremy Van Hoof to potentially join the Chiefs.
