Falcons Sign Pair of Forwards
The Springfield Falcons have signed C Justin Kelly and LW Randy Rowe.
Rowe spent last season with the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL. In 72 games there he notched 21 goals and added 27 assists for 48 points. The 25 year old, 6'0" 198 lb. winger played junior for Belleville of the OHL where he had 64 goals and 102 points in 67 games in his final year as an overager. As a professional, Rowe has spent most of the past four seasons with Peoria of the ECHL seeing only limited action in the AHL notching 7 points in 17 games for St. John's in the 2003-2004 season. Rowe is likely slated for Johnstown of the ECHL.
Kelly, 24, spent most of last season with the Adirondack Frostbite of the UHL where he put up an impressive 23 goals and 65 points in 57 games. At 6'4" 205 lbs. Kelly is a classic late blooming power forward who didn't break out until his final year of junior where he had 39 goals and 86 points in his final year of junior for Saskatoon of the WHL. Kelly split his rookie season in 2003-2004 between the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL and the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL. Last season, Kelly dominated the UHL earning a late season callup to the Springfield Falcons where he potted 2 goals and added 1 assist in 4 games. In 38 career AHL games Kelly has 6 goals, 6 assists and 12 points. Given the Falcons desperate need for scoring and Kelly's size and soft hands he should have a solid shot at making Springfield out of training camp.
Note: These players were signed by the Falcons to AHL contracts and are not technically Lightning properties.
